I'm limiting the size of my uploads since I'm never sure long my internet connection is going to work. The plans were to utilize an internet cafe if we needed to, but the only one in our neighborhood closes at 8pm, and we haven't gotten home early enough so far to use the place.... read more

Somehow, one of my pictures got left off yseterdays blog so the last three captions got out of sync. I'll repost the missing photo and you can figure out the long walk was Elizabeth walking through woods (NOT the creek as caption would appear) and the reward at end is my dessert.... read more

It's Thursday and I haven't posted due to a lack of an internet connection. Actually I would have posted Tuesday's blog before leaving Germany, but I was abruptly reminded in the wee hours Wednesday morning of the Cardinal Rule of writing electronically: SAVE EARLY AND SAVE OFTEN. I'm not sure what I did, but it doesn't really matter now. We started by cruising down the Rhine, then ... read more

Well, we're here! We had an uneventful, if cramped, flight. I think I am going on a diet before I attempt another overseas flight! Seriously, it was much more uncomfortable than it used to be. I must be getting old. Elizabeth couldn't get to sleep, so she was pretty tired today. She carried on like a real trooper, though, and I was real proud of her. I kept her up until 7pm (I was trying for 8), and when she collapsed her last words were "I promise I won't wake up" becaused I had warned her about going to bed too early and then waking up at 3am. She said our most interesting experience today was lnavigating the train station at Mainz. Our train from Franknfurt was delayed in route, and we missed our conecting train ... read more

They say getting there is half the fun. Well, I'll save that old axiom until we get there, literally. Until then, this is just "kick-off" entry to announce we are finally on our way. And aren't I glad! Finally is an understatement, but all the hard work planning and organizing (and preparing and procuring and packing) is all going to be worth it. This is going to be a trip of a lifetime...... read more
