Buenos Noches! Last night I arrived in Cadiz, the city where I will be living for the next four months.The other 7 students and I were all nervous and terrified to meet our families. It rained for the last hour of our 8 hour bus ride, which was a surprise to us all because it usually only rains 5 days out of the entire year. We didn't really know what to expect from our soon to be families, but in my case everything turned out to be great. My host mother (Josefa) and her 30 year old daughter (Milagros) were waiting to greet us when we got off of the bus. Hello everyone! Today is my second day in Madrid. It has been AMAZING, but very overwhelming! Madrid is better than I ever imagined it would be. It is extremely clean and there aren't an overwhelming amount of people walking around. It is extremely relaxing. I have officially met every member of team Cadiz (or eqiupo Cadiz as we like to call ourselves). Choosing to pursue a program like API was an amazing decision. We have the freedom to do whatever we want, but the guidance of our director to help us with things like dealing with professors, giving us maps of the town and advice on the best places to go and how to travel etc. The food here in Madrid is AMAZING, when I have more time I will post a description of the food ... read more

Hola! We left Spain this morning to take a bus to El Escorial. It took about an hour to get there and it was worth the drive. We went to the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo del Escorial, which was constructed between 1563-1584. It was beautiful and our tour guide had a beautiful accent. I learned so much about the history of the royal families in Spain. It was extremely interesting, and a lot easier to retain in person than when I read it out of a book. We weren't allowed to take pictures inside, but my favorite rooms were the burial room, the church, and the library. Some of the books in the library were over 1500 years old!
