"What time do they arrive?" I asked . It was a lovely warm June morning and my thoughts had been around the fact that the month was halfway through. We were racing headlong to the longest day when it would be halfway through the year . The days would remain constant for a few weeks before they slowly would start to draw in. July was just around the corner . We still have two months of Summer left so best enjoy it whilst we can . " What are you doing ?" I asked . I had reached the main road and had seen the signs for a cycle race . There was a gazebo set up on the corner with much activity going on beneath it . I was told the bicycle riders would be ... read more

"Shall we take Gabby? " " She could do with a drive out just to turn her tyres round and give us the opportunity for an easy comfort break and a coffee without having to do into a shop or motorway services " It all sounded a good idea as she had not been out for the past two weeks and a run would do her good and keep her running in good order . However , she was running on empty after our last trip to Clay Cross . If we were to take her out we would have to head for town to fill up. Extra miles and a bill for fuel that would top out at around £200 if our last fill was anything to go by. A few weeks ago her tank ... read more

I don't know what it is about my home town but I keep finding things to do and see . A trip to town today meant hanging around while the driver went for his eyes tested . I knew I had some time on my hands as the opticians are never on time calling you in . The test seems to take forever . The photographs of behind the eyes , the puffer tests to check for glaucoma and picking glasses seem to take a lifetime . The waiting gave me chance to wander round the quiet streets with phone in hand looking for things to photograph . It never takes me long to find something I have not spotted before . It might be the thatched roof of the Horse and Jockey pub , the ... read more

I always knew she was somewhere round the town. I had never really looked for her . My parents had told me about her . She had been moved and no doubt the woke brigade would like to pull her down . She started life in the Guildhall Square before she was shipped out to a quiet corner in the Belle Vue Park . I had talked about going to find her yesterday and had I chosen that day to find her I would perhaps instead have found a dead body . The park was closed off due to the sudden discovery of a corpse presumably a drug addict who had died from an overdose or the remains of someone who died from natural causes . Today I was lucky in that there were no police ... read more

Town - the city seemed empty this morning . I parked the car up as I usually did in the supermarket car park . There were folks about doing their early morning shopping but the roads seemed suspiciously quiet . What is it about this sort of morning that makes you think it feels odd but you just cannot put your finger on it . I walked across to the swimming baths . I never noticed the lights were not on but what I did notice was the fact that there seemed to be no young ladies going in for spin classes or the gym. Neither was there any groups of youngsters milling around after the swimming club session . The doors were firmly locked and I just could not get a hang on why. I ... read more

What shall we do today? The "What is going on in the town " book came out and I noticed that there was a display of metal Forget Me Nots at Erddig Hall . These beautiful flowers were used by the hospice to fundraise . Last year or was it the year before they sold Forget me Not plants and set them all out in the hospice gardens . This year was a different plan . To produce metal Forget me Nots , sell them for £30 , place them in the Meadow at Erddig and then the owners could pick them up and put them in their own gardens . That was an excuse to go and see them . Erddig is not far from us and it was only a few minutes from home ... read more

So nothing goes on in the town ? Why have we got a parade of honking fire engines ? Ambulances with their blue lights flashing ? Motor bikes and police cars ? It is a sunny day and we are heading for the last football match of the season. The semi final which might take us out of the Vanarama League into the English Football League next season . We play Grimsby - the Shrimpers . We finished second . They finished lower . Why on earth we have to play for promotion I have little idea but it does annoy us . If we lose we are stuck with non league football for the 15th year . We had high hopes for the season with our new owners and the renewed interest in the town ... read more

Gabby the motorhome is on her travels again . Not to anywhere exotic mind . Back to Clay Cross for an appointment with the dentist . It is a long way to travel but NHS dentists in Wales are rarer than hens teeth . If you find one you are lucky. More than likely you have to join a very long waiting list hoping to eventually move from private to the cheaper NHS. It begs the question why we pay in all these years to the NHS and cannot get a dentist for love nor money. Gabby is filled with three quarters of a tank of fuel so plenty to get to Derbyshire and back . This too is a blessing given that diesel prices are going through the roof . Inflation has pushed it up ... read more

Our train trundled on slowly into London . The information board and the on board system gave out messages from time to time about which station was coming up next ; which station we were stopped out: the end of the line. We arrived at Wembley stadium station and disembarked together with a large group of town supporters all resplendent in red and white . Different shirt tops marked each era for the club . Some new . Some much older and more valuable . We walked out to the stadium . You couldn't miss it in the Spring sunshine with its massive white arch that could be seen all over the skyline of certain areas of London . We wandered along slowly . Kick off was not until 4.15 so we had a lot of ... read more

Sometimes you get wrapped up in the moment . You get carried away . Deepak Chopra said something like "There will never be time when your life is not this moment ". You get emotional . You don't think of the inconvenience nor the cost but you go with the flow . You have to do it . You may not get the chance again . And so it was when Wrexham AFC found themselves after playing extremely well in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley the home of English football . It was an honour . A time of great pride and with the tickets only costing £10 it was hard to put off going . OK it would be an extremely long day. A costly one in terms of putting petrol in the car ... read more
