Great blog! How fabulous to follow the length of a river from its delta to its head, especially one as important as the Meekong! Love your reference to one of my favorite filmmakers, Herzog, and his amazing film Fitzcarraldo (I'm in Peru and hope to visit its inspiration--the Manaus opera house on the Amazon). Luang Purbang sounds like a magical place with its divine French bakeries, your acute observation on the "giving" to monks, and the realization of Jane's elephant dream! Best luck in finding the real source of the Meekong in China--I so enjoyed your blog--thank you!
Jaisalmer Tour Really a very informative article. But for more info on Jaisalmer tour please click the following link: http://easytouristguide.com/historical-places/jaisalmer-golden-city-of-rajasthan-amidst-thar-desert.html
Incredible journey I'm sat scrolling through your journey diaries and am struck by an equal mix of admiration & inspiration. Good luck to you both and happy travels!
Happy New Year Happy New Year to you! So glad you were able to celebrate Christmas with Ian and Dan. Caused me to reflect on the memorable Christmas I spent in Udaipur. I did the math and realized that was 30 years ago - OMG! I have no doubt this one will remain in your memory too. Safe onward travels and keep up the blog. I love your style and reflections on your experiences. BTW did you catch up with Javed? Take care, love, Dave
Ugly memories The pick pocketing reminded me of our journey from the Paris airport to the city. I smacked the "bastard" when I caught him trying to access me waist pack and no one helped me, but i was able to keep my stuff as I yelled at him to get off - in English which of course he seemed to not know even with my hand gestures. Dave and the boys were in the front of the bus. Maddening moments...........
Enoying your Blog You are having quite the wonderful adventure. Beautiful pictures! We see the similarity of you both in your boys! Safe travels. Michele and Dave
Merry Christmas Well done to both of you on your amazing achievements. I'd love to do something similar but it would have to be by Winebago which, I reckon, would be cheaper than the physiotherapy required to keep me going past Calais.
Have a great Christmas and New Year wherever it takes you.

Happy Christmas! Hi Jane and Jem! What an amazing adventure you're having - I'm loving reading it. Hope you have a lovely Christmas together. I was thinking about Ian the other day and the babysitting I used to do for him - we're going back to Canterbury next year for the 25th anniversary of our graduation - feeling old! Stay safe and savour every moment. Lucy x
Bon Voyage He Jem and Jane! Glad your Central Asian tour went well. After reading about your adventures in Almaty, I now plan to spend a few days in Almaty next time I go back to visit my family in Astana. Many thanks for sharing your stories and good luck with your trip.
Back to USSR Your awesome blog brings back memories of my post-college business travel from Astana (fr. Tselinograd) to Almaty (fr, Alma-Ata) to Bishkek (fr. Frunze). Great Job! Love it!
Fascinating Insights Hi Jem & Jane -
this sounds like and amazing part of the world to visit - once you'd got through 'passport control'. The butchers in the Bazzaar looks almost like a stock exchange! I also wondered why you re carrying a knife, Jem? Though, if you've got one it might as well be sharp.
Its interesting to see the all cultural differences - many and varied!
Amazing country It was a fascinating story... never heard of Turkmenistan too much and now I truly start to envy you all that non-European experiences on your journey.
now it trully becomes an oriental journey Hi,
While reading your blog about eastern Europe was fun to learn "how the British see us, Eastern Europeans" kind of perspective, now I am becoming even more curious of the places you visit - ok, I know where Azerbeijan is on the map, but that's about it, I know about this country... so looking forward to learn more though your stories!
