Yes and No I spent my early years in Guangzhou myself, and went there after a 17-year absence. I had a quite pleasant experience. There were many negatives, but the positives really out weight them. After spending some time in Shamian, we plan to adopt a child from China. (You know what I am talking about if you have been there) Of course, Sanya is much better. I wouldn't call Guangzhou the worst city though.
BTW, I enjoy your journal very much.
did u ever find out what happened to that dead guy on the street? why are Chinese police so skinny? they look like Jr. high school kids in America! btw, i'm surprised and happy that u're back in one piece. you're nuts for doing this trip without travel insurance. reading your blogs make me wanna backpack again. nice posts, bro! let's do that roadtrip we've always wanted to next year. better yet, come down to LA and grab some tacos with me. PEACE!
Guangzhou is my birth place too! yeah i know how shady people are over there. money money money. although, i am glad that the majority of people speak Mandarin instead; cos Cantonese is so FREAKIN ANNOYING! but u gotta admit, they do have some fine Cantonese cuisines.
this looks like a place to party. tell me, how many hearts of local village girls did you break there? no seriously, I wouldnt mind spending a few days here and unwind. didnt know your mandarin was that good.
you crazy mofo. you're the reason why Chinese police are such assholes toward travlers. nice photos, i admire your bravery. I'd probably do the same thing but not withouot a backup plan and a buddy!
