Hello everybody! This morning, we slept in!!! Yay!!! It was fantastic, except we had to get up eventually because they stop serving breakfast at 10:00 at the motel and we were hungry! I'm not quite sure on why they're so strict about not serving breakfast after 10:00, since all they have is different cereals and pastries sitting in baskets, and for that matter, I don't know why they call it "serving", but anyway, not to matter. Oh, and before I forget, for all you grammatically sensitive people, I'm extremely sorry for spelling barrel incorrectly in my blog yesterday...I looked at it a thousand times and one 'l' just didn't look right, so I went for two, big mistake. Anyway, that having been said, after breakfast we went for a walk around Bordeaux again, and decided to ... read more

Bonsoir everybody! We went for our first tour of the holiday today out to a place called Saint Emmilion. It's a small village surrounded by vineyards, as is basically all of the Bordeaux area except a massive pine forest just before the Atlantic. The tour took us to a vineyard named Chateau de Pressar, where the big boss man showed us around. Because it was raining, he only took us to the top of the terraces to look around at his vineyard, which was pretty spectacular. I don't know if he would usually take us down anyway actually because we were probably pretty short on time as it was. From there he took us into the cellars and showed us the vats that they use, which was very interesting. Because they have a number of different ... read more

Hello everybody! We're in Bordeaux tonight. We caught the train from Paris at 10:10 this morning and arrived at a bit after 1:00 in the afternoon. Pretty good for what is usually a 7.5 hour drive. The trains are massive. We were in carriage 18, of about 20 I think, and each of the carriages are about the length of two of the passenger carriages in Brisbane, so it took us at least 10 minutes to walk along the platform to get to our carriage (although we did have heavy luggage...so that slowed us down). And it's SO fast!!! It kind of reminded me of that part in The Castle. You know when they're on the lake and the Dad says to "look at that", and the boy says "what?", and he points behind him and ... read more

Come hear the music play... OK, that was cryptic, and probably only my dad will understand it, but we went to se a show tonight and it was fantastic. We didn't do much during the day...mostly because we didn't know what we were looking for. We needed to book tickets for our train trip to Bordeaux tomorrow, so we went to the Metro, and it was there that I met my first rude French person, who went out of his way not to help me, so we caught the Metro to the train station that we would have to leave from tomorrow and everybody was helpful there. From there we thought we would explore Montparnasse, but there wasn't anything amazingly different there (all of Paris is amazing, so it was still a beautiful spot, just nothing ... read more

Hello everybody!!! Just got back from Versailles. Make sure if you ever got that you go to the toilet BEFORE you get there. There's a distinct lack of any once you get inside. Just keep that in mind. It's pretty special that place, a bit too French for me actually, they tend to go a bit over-the-top with their decorations inside, but the gardens are incredible. We were a bit disappointed at first because the fountains weren't going and we were really looking forward to seeing them going, so we went to get an icecream and just sit by one of the huge pools they have there. If you've seen the movie Marie Antoinette, and if you remember the scene where after her birthday she goes to that pool of water to wait for the sunrise, ... read more

Bonjours Mes Amis Ha, I have become so French already. I love it here. Today we went to Montmarte, which is where all the bohemians hang out (even though I doubt they can actually afford to live there). We caught the metro there and walked around, saw the Moulin Rouge (which is a bit uninspiring in the daylight, so if you go to see it, maybe go at nighttime), and then wandered around. We got to this one place and it was up a heap of stairs so we climbed them, and then decided there wasn't much to see up there so we went back down. When we looked at the map afterwards we realised there was a whole stack of stuff we missed out on, but we didn't want to have to climb all those ... read more

Hello everybody! This technically starts last night as well, but I just put today's date because it's easier. Last night we went to the Eiffel Tower. It's only a few Kms from where we are staying, so it took us about 10 minutes to walk there. It's amazing. We couldn't stop staring at it. And we were there just on 11:00 too, and it flashes lights everywhere for 10 minutes every hour after dusk. There's a few photos in the gallery if you want to have a look. We got sucked in a little bit though, even though we knew not to let it happen...Everybody who has been to Paris is going to laugh at me when I tell you this, and everybody who hasn't, be warned...There are guys that wander around giving roses to women ... read more

Hello everybody! Took the tunnel to France today. I think I'm going to really, really, really like France. The tunnel train goes into Paris Nord station, which is massively big - think Brisbane Internation Airport, but a train station...strange. And a bit overwhelming, but we made it through, and spoke to some very nice tourist information people, and they told us where to go. So we caught the Metro, which is France's (better) answer for the London Underground, to where we were staying. It's so cool, there was a young guy playing violin while we were going to the second stop we needed to get to. He's stare directly into peoples' eyes as he was playing...I think to guilt us into paying him...but that didn't work. Then he ran out...I'm not sure if they're actually allowed ... read more

Hello We're in Scotland today. Very exciting. Actually, very scarry. Note for new players...DON'T BOOK A HOTEL IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR CITY IF YOU ARE ALSO HIRING A CAR. Anyway, now that you have all been warned... We're in Scotland today. Arrived at about 4:00 and picked up the car etc and tried to find our accommodation. Luckily, we got a GPS with the car so that made life easier. It doesn't matter how much it costs, if you're hiring in a weird country, you'd better get one!!! Trying to find some parking wasn't so easy, I accidentally drove over a few traffic markers and may have slightly scratched the side of teh car...that's lovely isn't it. Only took me an hour. But we found it anyways, so doesn't matter. This is going to ... read more

Hello! Had a great day today, did all sorts of things, aching everywhere but it's completely worth it. First we went to the British Museum. It's so huge, you really need a guide to take you through, because we really didn't know what to look at and a lot of the time didn't really know what we were looking at. We spent a long time in the ancients, they were just phenomenal. Some of the stuff was so huge you are dwarved by it all, and wonder how they could have put it all together. Most of the Roman stuff was closed off unfortunately so we didn't get to see most of that, so that was disappointing, but doesn't matter, the Greek section was beautiful. We saw a few other things in there, you have to ... read more
