Our ducks
Much better than Australian Ducks. These ones quack with an accent and have curly mustaches and have other French stereotypical traits Hello everybody!
This morning, we slept in!!! Yay!!! It was fantastic, except we had to get up eventually because they stop serving breakfast at 10:00 at the motel and we were hungry! I'm not quite sure on why they're so strict about not serving breakfast after 10:00, since all they have is different cereals and pastries sitting in baskets, and for that matter, I don't know why they call it "serving", but anyway, not to matter.
Oh, and before I forget, for all you grammatically sensitive people, I'm extremely sorry for spelling barrel incorrectly in my blog yesterday...I looked at it a thousand times and one 'l' just didn't look right, so I went for two, big mistake.
Anyway, that having been said, after breakfast we went for a walk around Bordeaux again, and decided to go to the Fromagerie to get some cheese and a baguette and enjoy that in the park. Since the universe is against me, the shop's sign said "not open when Ray wants it to be", and true to their word, they were closing their doors as I walked up. Not to matter. Actually, it's kinda cool. heaps of shops shut for a few hours around lunchtime. Although they make it up by being open until 7:00, so can't blame them. Didn't matter anyway because we found a grocery shop and bought some ham and cheese and baguettes, and grapes, and coke, and chocolate, and extra bread, and some water, and then remembered they don't give you bags for your shopping here so Susie and I were carrying thousands of individual little things to a park so we could eat. Most people laughed at us. A few said something that seemed to be hillarious, but we have no idea what they said, except for the word "food".
We went to the park that I mentioned yesterday and fed the geese and swans and ducks and sparrows and...well, just say birds, and also the water was teeming with carp. It was kind of funny watching the ducks etc fight with the carp and see who would come out victorious. I think the swans were the boss of the stream though, they just gracefully floated to wherever they wanted and everything else capitulated. It was about 4:00 by that stage, and we had a little tour to go on at 4:30, so we went to the tourist office.
The tour was FANTASTIC. It was a wine and cheese tasting thing in a restaurant that is essentially a wine and cheese restaurant. There's a little room/cellar downstairs that is beautiful, just how you picture a cheese cellar to be in France, and there was every cheese you could imagine sitting in a cellar, with water dripping through the roof to keep it humid, and to keep all the mould happy. Then the lady got us to sit down at two tables (there was about 20 of us), and she had three Bordeaux wines for us to try. The first one was from a year that hadn't been particularly successful, and she showed us how its colour wasn't very deep, and how the colour was fading as the wine touched the glass, and this meant that the wine was "evolving" - in that it was changing the flavours - very quickly, and that meant that the wine wasn't a good one for cellaring because it would only last a few years before it was worthless. The next one was a bit darker, and a bit nicer, and the last one was quite dark, and hardly changed colour close to the glass at all...it was fantastic. Lots of people have said that Australian wines are as good, if not better, than French wines. I'm fairly sure they've never been to Bordeaux. And the cheese...I can't even think what to write about the cheese. But if I could, it would be something inspiring, no doubt.
Then, we went home.
Hope everybody's doing well. We have to get up relatively early in the morning to catch the train to Avignon, hopefully they have an internet connection there...we shall see.
Talk to everybody soon, keep emailing us pretty please!!!
Bye Bye
Ray & Sue
Oh, Sorry there aren't many photos today, got a bit tired of lugging the camera around so thought I would take a break.
