We got up early on Saturday, and drove up in the rental car to Brendan’s Aunty’s place in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire to pick up our bags from British Airways. We didn’t need to pack anything as all our stuff was already up there! We said hello to his aunty, uncle and cousins, Hazel (7) and Joseph (9) and had a drink. We were finally reunited with our bags but when we opened we found that all our stuff was wet! After sitting wet for 3 weeks, our clothes were mouldy and ruined; Brendan’s phone and camera had condensation on the inside. Despite our best efforts we never got his phone working again. We spent most of the afternoon dry things out in the sun and scrubbing, bleaching, washing and drying all of our clothes with bit ... read more

Yet another week of formalities, of achieving that much, but still seem to be constantly busy. On Tuesday I went down to the shops to get a card and present for Dad for Fathers day on Sunday and managed to head home just as it started to rain. Surprisingly, it’s not Father’s Day over here so finding something appropriate was a little more difficult than expected. By the time I got home, Matt had returned back from Portugal. I wrote in dad’s card and took it down to the post office to try and get it to New Zealand as soon as possible. I was told that even if I paid ₤50 they could not guarantee it would reach NZ in time for Sunday, so sorry Dad, but I went for the slightly more budget option ... read more

We had a bit of a sleep in following our trip Paris, then finished off the last of our film and dropped the film in to be processed (gee, haven’t needed to do that in ages!). While we were out we had lunch at a little café near the local Green and strolled down to the mall to get some hygiene basics, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, as our good ones were still in our luggage at Heathrow, and we were not allowed to bring liquids, such as toothpaste, back on the plane with us. I spent the rest of the afternoon checking e-mails and doing some well overdue flat hunting. I went back up the road to pick up our photos while Brendan started dinner for the flat as a bit of a thank you ... read more

We got up about 10am, got ready, grabbed our crepe’s and panini’s and walked up to ‘Parc Montsouris’. We had our food on the park bench then had a walk around. We caught the Metro to Chalet and spent the afternoon looking around the Louvre - WOW!!! what an amazing place! There was so many thing to see. We had a look around the ‘Treasury of the World’ Exhibition which was showing ‘Jewelled Arts of India in the Age of the Mughals’. It was amazing to see how advanced and intricately beautiful the pieces were, even for things like swards. Check out the Louve website, you may have to look as past exhibitions if it is no longer under ‘current exhibitions’: http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home_flash.jsp We also got to walk though the remains of ‘The Medieval Lourve’, which is ... read more

I got up early, Brendan made us bacon sandwiches for breakfast and I packed my bag. We left early and caught the tube to Heathrow to get there about 12pm. We were forced to stand out side in the threatening rain with 100s of other people until our flight was called. After a few hours we were allowed to go into the terminal and check in (Yay!) While we were waiting in line, we were informed that our flight had been cancelled and we needed to be rebooked on to a different flight and shifted into another tent. We rebooked for a flight later that night and where then sent to the other end of the airport, and after a long process were put on standby for an early evening flight. We went and had ‘lunch/ ... read more

The next few days was more of a week of formalities. Following a bit of a sleep in from our Greece trip, Leo headed back up to Cambridge. I showed Suz our photos and after having a Magners at The George that evening, we got into a bit of a cleaning and maintenance mode. We constructed a scaffold out of chairs and a bed-side table looking thing to reach the smoke detector in the hall way and then started attacking the lime scale in the bathroom basin. I finally managed to contact my bank in NZ to start the ball rolling on my money transfer, which was pleasing, as I was down to.. well not very much! The following day I moved out of the room that I had been renting since I arrived to hand ... read more

We woke up to the cleaning lady at the door. I read for a little while and finally hauled myself out of bed at about 1pm. We walked down to the main road and had lunch at one of the beachside café’s where we bumped into Kate and John doing the same thing. I headed off down the road to the internet place to once again try and sort out my money transfer from New Zealand, while Leo met the others at the beach. I had a look at a few shops on the way and by the time I got back to the beach it was about 6.30pm! I had a bit of a swim with the others before calling it quits for the day. We headed back to our respective hotel rooms to have ... read more

We struggled to get up and had to rush down to the bus stop at the far end of the shops. Thankfully the bus was also on Island time and arrived about 15 minutes late. We jumped on headed into Corfu Township on the east coast of the Island. We had a walk along the waterfront and found a nearby café for brunch. We wandered through the township and weaved our way through the narrow roads and alley ways between the tall, but very old buildings. There were definitely resemblances between the old Corfu Township, and the old township on the hill that we had visited on Tuesday evening, but on a much glandular scale. There was such a sense of history in a place where pathways are still paved with stone and building look like ... read more

Neither of us got any sleep as it was too hot and just as you almost passed out, mosquito’s would buzz around you head and wake you up! We got ready and headed down to the Jetty to catch our cruise boat. However, we had no idea where to catch it from! We hung around the marina for a while, but there was no sign of the boat. We walked down the road a little and then bumped into Kate and John on the way. Thankfully we got there just in time! We later found there was a giant sign saying “PAXOS BOAT DEPARTURE POINT”. Oops! We jumped on the boat and cruised to Paxos Island, south of Corfu, and stopped at a little sea side village, Lakka, for an hour. We got some food and ... read more

Leo set an alarm for 9am, but after repetitive presses of the snooze button, it was 10.05 before we knew it. We jumped out of bed and quickly went out to the pool area for our “10am” meeting with the Med life rep, who told us about what there was to do within the area, Island and also day excursions etc. We booked a well recommended day trip on a boat to two nearby Islands, Paxos and Antipaxos, for tomorrow. We headed towards Lake Korission at the north end of the beach, mentioned in the meeting this morning. We stopped for a swim on the way on an empty stretch of beach and I made a little shady hut out of some driftwood that previous occupiers had started to string together. The water appeared to be ... read more
