The Country Estate
check out the Sunflowers! We got up early on Saturday, and drove up in the rental car to Brendan’s Aunty’s place in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire to pick up our bags from British Airways. We didn’t need to pack anything as all our stuff was already up there!
We said hello to his aunty, uncle and cousins, Hazel (7) and Joseph (9) and had a drink. We were finally reunited with our bags but when we opened we found that all our stuff was wet!
After sitting wet for 3 weeks, our clothes were mouldy and ruined; Brendan’s phone and camera had condensation on the inside. Despite our best efforts we never got his phone working again.
We spent most of the afternoon dry things out in the sun and scrubbing, bleaching, washing and drying all of our clothes with bit of help from Brendan’s cousins, Joseph and Hazel.
We went on a tour of their amazing garden and grounds, including the underground bunker from the war, two ponds complete with decoy duck, the Christmas tree plantation and vegetable garden, before some visitors arrived. We had afternoon tea and attended to some more washing.

Brendan - Cleaning...
Can you tell we are not impressed?? uncle over to some other relatives’ house near by for a birthday party for one of the kids. We popped in to say hello and catch up with them, then headed off early to once again attend to another load of washing.
Brendan and I walked down the road to a nice Indian restaurant called ‘Kushboo’ for dinner, then went back to the house and had a glass of wine and a chitchat with his aunty & uncle before going to bed.
I got woken up early by a text from Suz to say Steve Irwin, the Crocodile hunter had died! Crazy!
We got up, had breakfast and brought in the washing that was dry. I played Lego with the kids and then had a tour of the manor house with Brendan before lunch.
While we were having lunch, Brendan got a call to say he has an interview in Wales next week and is wanted back on the research boat for three weeks as first mate while he is up there, which is a great promotion for him! However, it means that he can’t come to Germany with us 😞
We played a game

Who thought cleaning could be fun?? of Backgammon, packed up the rest of our stuff, and I had a bit of a jump on the trampoline. We said goodbye and headed back to Shepherd’s Bush.
Helen came home and I helped her cooked dinner for Brad’s 27th Birthday tonight. Matt and Logan came over for dinner as well, which was followed by a yummy chocolate birthday cake! - Happy Birthday Brad!
