After some much needed sleep, we managed top get down stairs in time to have our breakfast at the hotel’s café by 10am. Just. We got ready and headed off for an adventurous day at Wild Wadi’s Water Park, which was situation next to the infamous seven star hotel. ‘Burj Al Arab’. I arrived with quite high expectations from what I had heard of the place. However, I think at this point I’d have to say that Wild Wadi’s is quite easily the best water park I’ve ever been to. I guess it’s not that hard to bet the likes of Waiwera or Paraki back home, but this place was amazing. After a quick dip in a relaxing pool, and a float around its river system, Brendan was ready for some thing a little more harrowing. ... read more

After a much welcomed rest in our room, from our exhausting walk this morning, we received a call from reception to say that our tour guide for our ‘desert safari’ had arrived to pick us up. After a quick get-ready, we jumped in our white Toyota Land Cruiser, which we were soon to realise was pretty much the only kind of 4WD Dubai seems to know exists. It still surprises me that we managed to actually get thought the city, pick up the other people in our car and get to the meeting place out in the dunes without having a serious accident. I think someone forgot to tell that driver that he wasn’t driving on the sand dunes at this stage, and in fact, those are actually other cars on the road. It made the ... read more

We landed in Dubai at 6am (local time) with a current temperature of approximately 30 deg C. The day just got hotter from there! Stepping outside of the front doors of the airport, was like walking into a tsunami heat wave. Before we could even blink we had a sea of random taxi drivers asking us where we wanted to go and trying to get us into their taxi. After a bit of banter we managed to bargain one of the taxi drivers down to a semi-reasonable price. So off we went to our new home for the next few days. I’m sure we still got ripped off, but the thought of getting in an air-conditioned taxi was far to inviting to worry about it any further. It was immediately apparent that driving styles were quite ... read more

Well I knew this day would roll around quickly, but not this quickly!! Following a wicked week of leaving parties including the official send off at the infamous Empire Tavern the weekend before, I seem to have very little time to complete many tasks which were considered 'essential' not that long ago. I not surprisingly found myself trying to jam everything into my already overweight suitcase minutes before I had to leave for the airport. Though, mum and dad didn’t seem to be panicking much. Somehow I managed to arrive at the airport before my traveling partner, Brendan. We checked in our bags and headed upstairs for the usual idle chit chat and coffee with those who were game enough to brave the Auckland Traffic. Before long, it was time to head through. I managed to ... read more
