short and sweet I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I've been wanting to say my last goodbyes for awhile now but with my work schedule and your school hours I wasn't able to swing by. I am going to miss you very much. I took for granted having you so near me and not visiting often enough. Alina says hi and wishes she could say bye in person but she is in California...doing her modeling thing as usual. Ich wuensche dir eine gute Reise und vieleicht fliege ich nach China und dir besuchen. I know that they will love you in China just as much as we loved you. And if you ever come back to visit you better post it on here so I don't miss your visit. Take care, and I hope everything goes great! I guess this post wasn't as short as I thought it would be. tschu.
A Teacher's Teacher Dear Hans:
All of the members of your "Department Family" wish you nothing but joy and continued success, and we will all miss you deeply, but nobody more than I. They say that you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but nothing could be farther from the truth. In my one short year under your leadership, you have taught this old teacher about honor, dignity, tolerance, compassion, scholarship, and most of all, about forgiveness.
We all do indeed love your travel blog, and we anticipate sharing in your new challenges and adventures through the miracle of technology. Please stay in touch with all of us, and we shall do the same. You carry a piece of each and every one of us with you.
God Bless and Godspeed,
David Kirsner
4th period hey schneidy-poo! wow, i read this entry i would have to say thanks for the advices you gave all of us, wow when i read the one about education. i just pictured you sitting behind the podium and telling that to all of us. It sucks i wasnt there your last day, Heber told me it was really sad and that you saw the video, anyways its good i didnt go, i would've cried the whole time, so i might as well remember you with that smile and the big hug you gave me the class before. Gosh its going to be hard to walk into your class again and not hear you telling me "spät", well i hope this isnt the last time we hear from you!!good luck with your trip! and make it comfy because its going to be a long ride=) AUF WIEDERSEHN! ICH LIEBE DICH HERR.SCHNEIDER!
The best teach one can hope for. Dear Schneider- If it wasn’t for you me and my sister would still hate each other but because we can have little conversations in German we aren’t always at each others thoughts. This is what is keeping us together. Every time we get into a fight all it takes is for one to call the other a “pig dog” and that is the end of the argument. And for that I thank you. Good luck in the future in china I hope its fun. Remember to keep me posted and send me pictures. O and by the way I am so jealous. I think it is wonderful what you are doing and only hope that I can do the same in the far future. I will always remember you Hans. Good luck.
Viel Glueck.

But hey its true!! Wow Schneider you are an amazing photographer!!

Going to miss you so much!
HI! Hey schneider....wow the year's almost over and your leaving to China...:(...im sure that we're all going to miss you lots! i know i will!...oh well have fun in china....buh byes!
hey hey schneider, I just got back from the hospital yesterday. I missed you sooo much... and the whole time I was scared that if you left before school ended, I might miss you. Anyway, see? Back from the hospital and I already read your latest journal. :)
much love to you
Hey schneider
Thought I'd drop by and read a few entries now that AP exams are through for me. I must say that I love your photography (as I'm sure I must have told you before now) and to hear how excited you are to go teach in china is really reassuring. I know we will miss you desperately next year but I guess it's time for you to move on to somewhere where you are happiest and your teaching will be most appreciated. Unfortunately thats not with us but I'm just glad you found it.
I would just like you to know you have made a profound impact on everyone in our class. I have spoken to high school graduates who cannot remember most of their high school teachers names. But I feel I can safely say that you will not be the type of teacher that, at least my class, will forget.
See you Monday!
Margie
PS- I think I did okay on the AP!
my favorite blog yet! "I will always remember them, and may they always think kindly of me."
haha... and our class, as a whole, would wish that YOU will always think fondly of US... cause we know we've also had our share of "sour" moments. :(
but i hope those moments are outweighed by all the great moments we've shared :)
much love to you
hey hey Mr. Schneider..I haven't see you in a while, hopefully I'll see you this monday..but aside from that..I want to thank you, thank you for being such a wonderful, caring, loving human being. Few people do what you do, and that's care so much for what's out there, specially for your students. Anytime you talked during our class, I always listened, because I know you are someone to listen, you are an exemplary person to listen to. You opened my eyes in so many ways, and showed me some great aspects of life. I know I was a pain in the butt, but dont let that get in the way of how much I admire you, I'll always, always remember you, for the best of reasons...thanks not only for being an awesome teacher, but also a great friend to me, and although i've only met you this year, you give me reasons to remember you for years to come..I wish you the best on your teaching expedition to China, and never, never forget how great you are. Wish you the best Mr. Schneider!..-Juan
from your 4th period. Hi Hans, :) The pictures are great and so is this entry. I know in the future when I look at these class photos, it will bring back memories. Wow.... I didn't know that you knew how to fly a plane. Hmm yes, I also do hope that America will better itself in the future.
you've been the best Hey Schneider! WOw!!! I can't believe that highschool is almost over in a few weeks. I am more than happy that you've been my teacher for 4 years...you have been the best and would always remain in my heart. I can say that i had the pleasure of having a teacher like you for 4 years, and although your job was only to teach us German, you have taught us more than that. You have tried to teach us that what matters most in life are not the material items a person possesses, but the internal characteristics. You've been for me when i needed a tough hand to tell me to get my life straight, and although at first it seemed to me like it didn't matter, now i look back at it and thank you for it. I needed someone to tell me all those things, and I've been doing better. It's going to be hard letting go of all those times that we shared in the classroom, with your discussions on politics, religion, society, and so forth. It has been a wonderful experience for me and it saddens me that it has come to an end. Nonetheless, this is just an end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. *Hugs*
p.s. Sorry for not being in class, as you know i've had IB and AP tests this whole week and will go on until the last day before graduation. hmm but, I'm going to make time. ta ta

Get ready Fear not - you can ready yourself for a whole cavalcade of admiring and only slightly bemused new students! Last Christmas, standing before five hundred students doing turkey impressions, arms flapping with accompanying 'gobble-gobble', only having a fraction of an idea what was going on but thoroughly enjoying it, could be described as both the highlight and nadir of my teaching in China so far.
Hey schneider, wow! when i see these pictures and i read what you submited today, makes it extremely difficult to think that you're leaving in a few weeks. Then again i cant be greedy and not let someone else have the pleasure of having you as a teacher! beacuse you are by far the best of the best! :) well, see you in class, and thanks for referring to all of us like that even if we caused you a little trouble here and there! it means a lot!
sometimes i wonder why you have impacted me so much, i've only had you for one year, yet you are one of the persons i admire the most...
Schneider, you're such a wise person, and i think your most important and special quality is that you treasure all that most of us take for granted. Every single word you've ever said to me, or to our class in general, i've alwyas listened to, admired, and locked in my heard and hear under a label that reads "the best advice" in very awefull maria handwritting :-)
i thank you for being a motivation, for being so open, so helpful and most of all, for sharing every single piece of everything you share with us...i think this, is your gift to the world, this is your treasure you give to us, and..."how do you say good-bye to a treasure?"
:-) I didnt know you knew how to fly a plane...

After 38 years as a Foreign Language Teacher and Foreign Language Dept. Chair at Coral Gables Sr. H.S., and A.J. Professor of German at the University of Miami, I have left Florida in June of 2006, where my home is in Miami Beach, Florida, USA. I have just signed another year's teaching-contract (my 8th year now) with Taizhou University in the city of Taizhou, located about 3hrs north of Shanghai, in Jiangsu Province, CHINA.
I thought it would be informative for others and rewarding for me personally, to log the progress of my efforts from beginning to end, as a Travel and Photo Jo... full info
