A Silk Road Adventure

From: April 15th 2013
Until: May 9th 2013

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Geof Giles, and I love to travel. It's the desert of life. This is my narrative of my most recent journey, from which I have just returned. Central Asia and the mysterious Silk Road have always intrigued me. It's about as far away, as I can get from home, which is the siren sound adventure since I first learned of it.

I set off to visit Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, the “Stans” on April 15, 2013. Uzbekistan is the only double-landlocked country in the world, aside from Lichtenstein, which is hardly a country in any real sense. That is to say, that every one of the neighboring countries around it is also landlocked, which makes it one of the most inland places on earth. I began my journey with a first class frequent flier ticket on American Airlines going from Reno to Chicago, and then to London and Istanbul. This was the last real luxury I found on my trip that was to last nearly a month. Central Asia is famous for its short frigid winters, and its long, long sweltering summers, which is why I went in the Spring.
