Inside Passage Hi Carolyn and I just realised I don't think I got back to you after your advice on doing the inside passage in Alaska. Thanks very much for the info and is locked away in the vault. Sorry but I've also lost your email so I had to respond via travelblog. Safe travels
Gary
Val's Photos Hi Carolyn, I checked out Val's photos and they're terrific! Your descriptions are so good that I could picture some places before I saw the photos...the gold museum, salt mines, setting's from the book. The splendors you've enjoyed in Colombia are beautifully captured in her pictures and in your prose! Good job! Happy travels back home to both of you.
lush with imagery are you referring to one hundred yrs of solitude?
reading this is a pleasure-- exactitude of description. love the cacophony of happenings (to our north american sensibilities) of the wedding. and I loved seeing the word snotty. we don't hear that much any more.
this is my first time reading your blog; i am hooked.
Catching up! Have been enjoying your blogs so much, as always! Great break from preparing taxes... thank you. Just saw Val's photos, and particularly enjoyed the Botero Museum shots. (I see what you mean, we'd have loved that era!!!) It seems like Cartagena is turning out to be a much better experience for you than Bogota was. If it makes you feel any better, my sister-in-law the travel agent (who has spent a lot of time in South America, too) was very surprised to hear about all the rain you encountered there! She, too, would have thought you were there at the perfect time to have beautiful weather. Tell Val her pictures are the perfect complement to your writing, and I'm loving it all!
vaya con Dios! May the dirt roads rise to meet you.
May the bus drivers recently have had their vision checked.
May the smiles you so graciously give be joyfully returned!
Amy
Ah, the details As I read your commentaries I feel I am walking beside you. You have such a gift sharing the written word.
I'm anxiously looking forward to reading your next installment.

Maybe "FUNNY" Later! Hi, Carolyn and Val! Have read ALL the blogs so far and checked out photos! You both get an "A"!!!!! Actually, Carolyn, your writing gets better with each trip--your unique voice and "right-on" humor have me in stitches a good deal of the time. At other times, I am overwhelmed with the emotion of the moment I am experiencing WITH you! Seems to me, this is the first time you have been "ripped off" since before Alaska/ferry excursion. Good odds. Probably can't complain (except to the brochure publisher/distributor. ) I'm sure they don't have a better business bureau! Keep the good stuff coming! Many of us are living vicariously via your travels, you know!!!! Love, Bev J.
Talented Traveler How wonderfully gifted and thoughtful you are, sharing your detailed descriptive travels with your friends. To think that just about 3 weeks ago you were sitting on the banks of the Fox River here in Geneva, IL & now you've experienced the awesome splendor of the banks of the Nile. (No comparisonthere I'm sure). Love these blogs!
Love your rip blogs I am so enjoying the ongoing commentary and graphic summaries of your travels. Hank, Betsey and I are reminsicing about recent trips to Egypt and await the Istanbul story because the grand bazaar was OMG ~ CLOSED ~ when we were there (once in a blue moon for the religious holidays, so only a few token bazaar stalls were open). Did you get claustrophobia going into the pyramids?? I am quite enthralled with the tour company's down to earth sidebar trips. Would like to look into that in the near futire. Sounds like you are having the BEST travel time ever! Amen for the Genie Z dedication. Sounds like a story for the Independent. Love and best wishes, Sue
Spiritual Friends Dear Carolyn, It's lovely to hear about your friend and teacher, Genie, being close to you in Egypt! It's heartening to know that no matter where we are in the world, our departed loved ones are near. I'm sure she enjoyed your "Leaving Egypt" blog entry very much...I did too! Thanks for such excellent writing/reporting, especially nice for an armchair traveler like me. Pat
a note from Callum Dear Nana -- that was a very interesting story! I hope you had a very good time in Luxor. It must be neat to see the history in real life. We saw the same temple on this Egyptian movie about Hatshepsut! I would have never believed that that was real.
love Callum
The Sacred Circle is Fate & Beautiful Carolyn--What a wonderful story. Looking forward to hearing more about the play. God was indeed watching over your and Val to give you this incredible opportunity. Your clothing descriptions of the two Chiefs were so clear--no camera needed. I bet you could get your taxi friend to send you photos if she knows them well. The play's author would be fun to know much more about. Sounds like a "woman before her time." Would love to have been with you. Keep up the terrirfic blog work. This needs to be your "Northwest Passage" book!!! I bet no one has ever written a travel book about the ferry system. Seriously! You might even get a Canadian publisher!!!!!! Love, Bev
Halong Bay I did what you said -- googled it! Wow. I have often seen photos of it, but never realized where it was. Beautiful!! Hope you eventually post your photos -- did you take some of the monkeys in that lagoon? Love, Bo
Hi Mom! Sounds like an adventure...and it sounds like that new knee is earning its keep.
Where are the pictures? You can do it! Anyone who can Hoi Hoi Hoi can load pictures to the internet :-)
we're all well.
much love
Linda
Here Here...... Well said about its sacredness and the unnecessary cell phone abuse from the parties of tourists who may as well be on a 18-30 holiday brawl. Im so glad you had a wonderful time.
glass houses This blog is so fitting an analogy to the current immigration debate in the US, where many, including the President think fences should be erected along the south western border. Thank you, Carolyn for reminding us just what fences really do.
