Guatemala, Mexico, and all of the other Central American countries celebrated their Independence this past weekend. Way back in the day, they were all considered one large 'country' under Spanish rule, and they all received their independence on the same day, so it's a mighty celebration. To kick it off, we went with a group of students from Celas Maya on Thursday to Xelafer, the fair that sets up right outside of town. We didn't know quite what to expect, but if you imagine a state fair in the U.S. with a Latin American twist, you are right on.
