After watching the exchange rate for a while now, we have decided not to go to Europe this summer on our motorbike trip. However all is not lost, we are going to tour Scotland. Our first port of call will be Aberdeen Harbour en route to Orkney Island Need to start the research. Its only now you realise how little you know about your own country and how much there is to explore, and will 2 weeks be enough time.... read more

Poland will be our final destination for our motorbike tour this summer. But today was another step in the planning stages. Purchased Adventure Motorcycling Handbook by Chris Scott Worldwide Motorcycling Route & Planning Guide or so the blurb on the front cover says. Hopefully we will find some helpful hints in there.... read more

The day has finally dawned, now we can relax, lie in the sun and basically just kick back. But first things first, do we eat breakfast in the hotel or do we go hungry. The thought of all those steps to the town centre won the day and we took our seats in the hotel "dining room". Our day was spent lounging around on the sun loungers on what the hotel laughingly calls a beach. I think the sand is the left overs from the building site next door and the flat area is about 3 feet above the water, with a wooden jetty and a metal tube step to get you into the sea. The sea and coral however more than makes up for all the downsides. Lots of fish, coral and sea anemones, and ... read more

Not sure it is a good date to be doing our final exam for our Open Water certification, but nowt we can do about it now. To get off to a good start we opted to breakfast at Camel, a feast for the condemed men sort of thing. The plan for the day was part of the final exam, then head to the sea to do the final 2 course dives, and the optional get to know dive. Oh my god I hate exams, and this one has 50 questions and you can only get 12 wrong "no pressure then" Our dive boat for the day was the "Wasser". The course dives were tiring and exhausting, but at least we know we are equiped to cope with some things that can go wrong in the water ... read more

Tuesday 10th or D DAY After an uninspiring breakfast we wandered down to the Camel Dive Center to start our course. Met our instructor Sven, and filled out the necessary medical forms. Due to Mike being +45 years old and a smoker, he had to have a medical. €35 later and a medical consent form, Mike is permitted to dive. Not sure about these Egyptian doctors, he has told Mike if he likes smoking he should carry on doing so, but he must take exercise. I wonder which part of the advice he will take heed of. There is one other English guy on the course with us, only 3 in the class, should make it easier. Sven seems to have loads of patience with us, even when it takes me an age to understand some ... read more
