Thank you for sharing your reflections about Christmas... and your spiritual growth this past year and your understanding of what is important especially when celebrating the birth of our Savior. I wish you a very merry Christmas!
Thank you for sharing your reflections about Christmas Indeed, it is so difficult to explain with words how it feels but it is definitely the best thing ever. Thanks for commenting on it, wishing you also the best for 2018.
Merry Christmas Frank! Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas, and a happy and safe New Year! I love hearing of people's personal traditions at this time of year - I love the sound of your tamales and baked Christmas cheesecake :)
Llanos Hola Frank,
A couple of years ago I was a volunteer in Colombia, first as a English teacher in a small town in Cundinamarca and than a photographer in the Universidad Nacional de Bogotá. After being in Colombia for more than 7 months I returned to Belgium to get my Bachelor in photography. In september I'm about to get my Master and specialise in documentary photography. But before I start I decide to return to Colombia to start my own photography project and look for stories. In the time I spent in Colombia I visited a lot of places from the north to the south of the country. After searching for a while my eyes fell on the Llanos because of the romantic/folkric culture of the llaneros. Also now Colombia is working on the processo de paz it seemd to open new doors for the country and the region. Next weekend I'm hopefully traveling to the city of Arauca for 2 days to photograph to project that a friend is working on. Later I probably travel to Yopal to stay with people I met on couchsurfing and who will show me their region and take me to local farmers. I really enjoyed reading your story so I was wondering if you have some tips for me like stories/people/places i should visit in arauca, casanare,...
Thank you,
Jef
llanos Dear Jef, thanks very much for your kind message and I must say i am quite impressed by your background. I left los Llanos like more than 20 years ago and am not familiar now with what's going on there. Having said that, the folk of the region will always be fascinating, that hasn't changed and you can always have some free lessons of Cuatro and Maracas in Arauca, where you will be over the weekend. Wishing you all the best, enjoy.
Amazing street festivals Seeing how people celebrate tell you a great deal about the culture. Looks fantastic. Dance, dance, dance....wish we had a video of your dancing.
Love the costumes! Hey, Ren Andrew... not much of a problem when I was young, now it will be almost impossible. I agree, the carnival was really fun although people say it might disappear, which will be a shame.
Show Thanks for your message, Dan. Oh, really? what a shame, I thought it was part of London's heritage now, old times are always much better. Good greetings
Very bad hotels ... After my trip to Tachira, the only hotel I recommend is LIDOTEL (boutique) >> http://gelvez.com.ve/san-cristobal/hoteles/1647-lidotel.html
Celebrations! How wonderful to celebrate birthdays with your big, beautiful family in a riverside hut in such a picturesque town with delicious food! The characters in the celebration of San Nicolas also seem to be having a fun time. And for such a small town, it has a very rich history. It looks like a great place to visit--thanks for sharing!
Celebrations! Cheers! That´s right, it is ideal for those celebrations as some huts offer various activities in a quiet ambiance, but if what we want is party and noise, September and October are good months to come. Hugs
Touring Columbia I always enjoy your blogs. You always intertwine a bit of history, festivals and rituals into the story. Your culture has some fabulous looking foods. We hope to get there sooner than later to sample them! Thank you for sharing.
Touring Colombia Thanks a lot. Humbly following your path as your blogs are a great example for all of us. Yeah, carnivals are opportunities for seeing friends and family and our calendar is full of them. You need to come and see for yourself. Hugs
Nice moments Well, what can I say? It was very nice coming across your blog, I was able to bring to my memory important events of my childhood, and what is better, I could remember a great teacher, maybe the kindest that I had known and with great humane values, Elio Cardenas. I was his student in 1981 when I coursed 3 in the Jose Celestino Mutis School. Please, give him my best regards and tell him that I do not forget his teachings, tell him that he helped to educate a good geologist that now is doing his best.
Nice Moments Hello, Nelson, I will pass along your regards to my dad; he´s so thankful to be remembered by. I am glad you have finished your studies, maybe one day i will meet you. In the meantime, take care!
Hi all!
Well, after so many seconds, minutes, hours, months and years of procrastination...-but highly encouraged by a most beloved friend-, I have finally got round to creating my own blog. Wow, I can't believe I'm actually doing it this time! It will be a nice opportunity to get in touch with so many friends that I've luckily gained in my entire '21' years' existence (we all know that's a lie but somehow it makes me feel younger, never you mind, sorry:); I'll be able to share some of the most precious memories of my travel as well as my day-to-day adventures. Let's just hope that my s... full info
