MORE PICTURES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE! Today I got up at 6 a.m. and was out on the road half an hour later, happy to escape the room. I followed the Autobahn 35 for a while and then turned onto a rural road which was a real relief. Everything seemed more natural and was much more quiet. I had about 48 km to go on this day and the pain in my ass (literally J)got worse, the saddle was probably not a good idea. I miss my old-man-style saddle and I hope to find a better one in one of the next towns. But there are almost no bicycles. I think you can be in Thailand one year and see less bicycles than you would see at one crossroads in Saigon… However, it seems ... read more

I started late again since I had not slept until the morning. I had to start with the only obvious road, which was an Autobahn more or less. Luckily, the emergency lane is used as a bidirectional lane for small and slow vehicles, so it was not a problem to drive there. The smog was not so nice however. But I guess 2 days won’t kill me. After about 10 km I had the chance to leave to a “rural road” and that is what I did. If I had known that the road was damaged for many kilometres and basically just dust and dirt, I might have decided differently. Although the scenery got much lovelier, the dirt just sticked everywhere, especially with the 100+ trucks passing and creating clouds of dust. Every time I passed ... read more

So this was my first day on bicycle. Also it was my first day on it since three years, do not expect too much please. I started out on some big road with 6 to 10 lanes and I found it to be much easier than expected. Thai driving seems really wild, but when you are in the middle of the cars, a bicycle below and a helmet on top, you start to realize that most other traffic participants drive carefully to avoid any crashed. You may even cross a red light while looking on your google maps on your phone. Not that I did that, of course not. I am a responsible driver. After I got out of the inner circle, I took a smaller road (6 lanes) to continue and competed with the buses. ... read more

Again I was overwhelmed with Thai friendliness as soon as I got my bicycle back. Even police officers wanted to help me carry it… Then I bought a SIM package from TRUE with 7GB of 4G traffic, flatrate and cheap calls to Germany. Man, am I disappointed. Only once did my mobile go over Edge – so now I got 7GB and am using Edge. Ridiculous. After that I had decided to take a taxi, since I did not want to ride from BKK with backpack and saddle bags and the small backpack. The taxi was somewhat expensive, because I had that huge carton – it cost 700 Baht, around 17 EUR. I had booked a small hotel upfront because I did not want to carry the bike from guest house to guest house in Koasan. ... read more

Here are some Shenzhen impressions. After I passed the Chinese border into Hongkong and somehow managed to not get the bird flu, I checked in with Hongkong Airlines and left for Bangkok. I think this was the first time I really slept in a plane after I had almost not slept for two nights. Hongkong Airlines is a bit strange. Their slogan is something like “We fly the Hongkong style”. Well, it is easier to get German mustard in Shenzhen than to book a flight on their website. In the plane, I asked for another seat with no one sitting next to me so I could sleep and the steward said I could change after takeoff, he would not know if there were still people coming. Hm – boarding was completed and the plane 2/3 empty. ... read more

Why I live in a SPA The SPA business in Shenzhen next to Hongkong and in some other Chinese cities is a very special thing. Let me explain why I am here and not in a hotel. When I arrive, 3 people say “Ni hao” and take my luggage. I leave my luggage at the reception. I get a bracelet with some code on it. Then I am being led upstairs to the locker where the locker boy helps me undressing and gives me a towel and slippers. After that I am going downstairs to the wet area. I take a shower (everything is there: shampoo, conditioner, even tooth brushes and razors) and then I have the choice between hot pool, cold pool (REALLY cold) and 3 kinds of sauna. After that I am handed some ... read more

OK, here is my travel report. From Munich I was flying to Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi is a terrible airport. Bad signage, too many people, expensive. The line to transit security check was about 250m long. Clerks all shouting, no matter if you are a real believer or as atheist as I am. 250 seems to be the magic number there. Because it was the distance from the gate to the toilet (at least when you don’t read Arabian) and 250/10 was the number of people waiting to get inside the toilet. So if you are changing planes there, calculate one extra hour… Etihad is an average airline. I don’t see why they should have won “best airline” the last 5 years. They are not better or worse than Lufthansa and in no way can they ... read more

Check-In was not a problem at all. Two bulky lagguage pieces, two kilo too much but thx to Air Berlin and Etihad I am sitting in the lounge, reading the playboy (articles only! :-)), drinking coffee and water and try to relieve my back, which is quite in pain because of the heavy luggage. Just don't fall asleep FloRider!... read more

I can't believe it but here I am sitting at MCD at Munich Airport waiting for check-in. And again auto-correct is set to german :-( The last days were really busy. Finishing work, final packing, trying to get a working phone... So about my phone, I bought a new one today, a Samsung DuoSim - and I HATE Android. The good Thing is that I can use Tethering to connect my Lumia to it, even with SIM lock. On friday I spent some hours to Flash new ROMs on it (but that is another Story) and I had to give up unlocking it. Then today I had to get my bicylce to the Airport. A good friend helped me carrying it to the subway Station and here I am. Unfortunately check-in is still some hours away, ... read more

Well, well, well... Being deep in preparations. Today I booked my flight for the 30.11. to BKK. There I will leave my bike in a storage ( http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node/134 ). I am very curious about the price and safety - it looks very weird and open :-) From Bangkok I will go to China first since I got business to do in Shenzhen. That will be an interesting trip. Again I will sleep in a SPA center since it is much cheaper than usual hotels. And I hope to meet my friend Amen there and looking forward to long talks in the lounge chairs about what is happening around the world... My biggest problem today was to remove the SIMlock on my Lumia 925 (best phone I had ever, much better than my iPhone or Galaxy). When ... read more
