There is nothing much to tell about Khanom or show what I have not told or shown on my recent trip to Khanom. On the first day (monday) I assembled my bike and was really happy that it worked well. I visited my Khanom friends and they were all really happy to see me. I was invited for lunch and dinner and really happy to be here. It was a really happy day. :D Today I also bought a table and finally established my office. What was a nightmare though, is what happened to my bicycle. I had a flat tire the very first day (I had only 2 in 3 months last time). I repaired that and had another flat tire only 2 days later. I repaired that too and started to work on my ... read more

(scroll down for all images) Hi everybody. It took me a while but as usual I need time to get everything settled until I have some minutes to share whatever happened. And it takes some more time until something happens at all :-) So here is my trip to where I am now. Saturday: Benno was so kind to give me ride to the airport because the S-Bahn was on strike and it would have been unpredictable to take it. I went straight to the check-in of Emirates where I saw people unpacking things out of their suitcases because they were too heavy. I got a little bit afraid about the 3kg excess luggage I had but I was lucky because the bike case did not fit onto his scale entirely and so it weighed about ... read more

So some days ago I met with my fellow travellers, Mohamed, an Egyptian (they do not walk in any special style by the way :D) and Alex, a "Zuagroasta" and suddenly overthought our route from Chiang Mai to Koh Chang over Bangkok. Instead we will head directly East from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani. That means right through some (apparently very cold) mountains with very few possibilities for accomodation into the poorest part of Thailand - Isan. Actually this is very exciting and motivating for me. It is going to be an adventure in a part of Thailand I have never been to so far and with practically no tourists. From there we will take a train to Ayuttayah and then Pattaya, from Pattaya we plan to continue with the bicycles along the sea to Koh ... read more

Look at my new bike bag. It is red and black, easy to fix and contains three bags actually. The top bag can be used as a backpack as well. And the reflectors - isn't it sweet? I also got a black/red helmet since I forgot my beloved old one in the bus the very last day on last year's trip. Now I need black/red gloves! I also want to recommend www.seatguru.com for long distance flight seating. With Emirates I can manage my booking and change seats but it is not always clear which seats are best (for me that means especially with more legroom). On Seatguru you can check exact seating conditions and recommendations for almost all flight...... read more

Welcome back readers... A new winter is closing in, the temperatures are dropping and dropping and dropping. Time to leave. Again, I will be heading to Thailand. This time I am flying Emirates! I am leaving on the 8th of November for 90 days exactly. At first I will stay some weeks in Khanom, then I will meet with 2 more guys in Bangkok around the 30th November. We plan to go to Chiang Mai by train and then cycle our way down to Koh Chang. I have never been to the north of Thailand before, so I will be happily taking recommendations for sleeping and sightseeing. More in the next days and weeks...... read more

I know I should have told you about my bus ride to Bangkok earlier and in detail. But I was quite occupied and a little bit sad that I had to leave. Now I will tell you about Etihad, the “World best airline” and the incredible disaster of my flight home which however ended most delighting (not going to tell you why J) I checked in Friday, 4 p.m. local time in Bangkok. At that time the flight was delayed from 19:55 to 22:00. The flight should go to Abu Dhabi and then I would have had 3 hours for changing into the plane to Munich. I asked if the connecting flight would wait and the answer was “Yes Sir”. The second unpleasant surprise was that the check-in-guy wanted 570 USD for my 10 kg over ... read more

I have decided to go home. I guess it is inevitable at some time anyway. I am taking a night bus to Bangkok tonight, transporting the bicycle in the bus - in parts. I will fly back on the 6.3. to Munich and hopefully continue to Mallorca soon. Looking forward to see you all.... read more

I am quite used to riding 80 km or more a day. As usual I started early, hoping not to ride too Long in the midday sun. However, I was unlucky. I followed my GPS to ride along the Phuket Airport landing Strip just to find the road closed and guarded. And on the way back, I had a flat tire. It was not my first (I had one in my days in Khanom) but this time the bicycle was fully loaded. In the heat it cost me more than one hour to unload, fix and load again... When I arrived finally around 2 p.m. at my friends house in Phuket, nobody was there. i broke in and finally was able to relax in the pool. The "official" part of my journey is now finished since ... read more

This Center is a nursery for sea turtles. The eggs are taken from the sand and bread (though that happens somewhere else). Then the small tea turtles are raised until they are let free in march into the sea. The nursery also takes care of many injured sea turtles. It can be visited daily for free and although the Center itself is only concrete and water, the turtles have touched me deeply. Enjoy the Videos and many Pictures at the very bottom of this page. ... read more

I continued my way to PhnagNga. The way was mostly rolling hills but the still climbs, especially the second one, were really hard. The last 30 km were simply a fight against heat and pain in various places of my Body. The time/Speed data is misleading - I did not turn it off at breaks and also had it running when I checked around for accomodation and Food. My riding time was 5-6 hours. Just check out the pics at the very bottom of the page, no more words...... read more
