Europe can be exotic too..... Gazman - don't worry - we'll try to make the Europe leg as exciting as we can...we're going to some pretty fabby places that we've never visited before.... and as for the food - have you ever had pigs trotters in marsalla wine???
Its sad, in a way, reading this one. I know you've got the Europe leg to go, but away out east...it was just so exotic. Things most of us had never seen, food we'd probably never tasted, unusual drinks. I could go on.
Anyway- if I can speak on behalf of the legions of Ouefs fans- thanks for being so fantastic and reporting things in such elaborate detail, and with the ever-present humorous Egg twist. Often, it was almost like being there. I see future careers as travel journalists!
Soon,

Twisting your knee! Hi Ant - I did think as we hobbled round the wall, of your disasterous knee twisting circumstances at Simatai. Anyone reading this should check Ant's blog listing titled: MISHAPS ON THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA AND A LONG JOURNEY HOME - for a decent insight into another quieter section, and the trials of a ten km hike on the wall. Cheers!
BLOODY GREAT WALL You see the Great Wall you saw looks like the one I was expecting to see?
I've just taken a look at your great wall links to see what it says about Simatai where I went.
Quote... 'Remember that much of Simatai is in a state of ruin.' 'Because this section has retained much of its original 500 year old features it offers a quite hazardous passage' 'take particular care not to loose your footing when stopping to take photographs!'
YEAH, NOW THEY TELL ME?
Hope your having fun.
Tony
Get Well Soon Hope you both feel a lot better soon. If you haven't been to the Great Wall yet make sure you get the toboggan down (Luke said it is great fun - I wasn't as brave and got the cable car!)
xx Heidi
Ah, come on now girls - no fighting on the blog! And Amanda - can't believe you wouldn't go for Chant No. 1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On) or To Cut a Long Story Short. They're magic. And the drama of Gold, well.........
Come back Tony, all is (not) forgiven You can have this one Cath - I didn't catch it and that is most likely because I'm not much of a Spandau fan. If it's not True - it's just mince!! Although "genital wipes" would have been a goo Spandau song title because they were PISH!!!!!
Spanders song Ha! Through The Barricades - indeed one of my faves! And I sincerely hope I've beaten Amanda to it cos that'll make the victory even sweeter!
Gutted Gary - I'm personally gutted about the helmet / protein pills debacle. To my mind they are conspicuous in their absence. And another thing - I was expecting to have a jet pack complete with silver metallic jumpsuit by now too. Shaz. xx
ps - nice to have you and Elly back on here 'guesting'.
pps - I'm learning to love Gordon - its a shame he gets killed a hundred times a day, y'know.
Aye... I wish there was something I could add to the Maglev stuff, but that linky does the job. One thing: does anyone else feel a bit disappointed that, as its 2006, we arent in the flying cars/space suits in the wardrobe/take your protein pills and put your helmet on world we were promised? (Reminds me of the lyric to "I.G.Y" by Donald fagen, if you know what I mean.) Well, my hopes are up if this is anything to go by.
As to Half-Life, Shaz- crowbars are your friend!

Ask me something I don't know. Madonna and her then husband Sean Penn - it was the first thing that sprung to mind when I read the title of this blog. I could make some bad jokes about you two being the Penns, but since yous are being laughed at enough, I won't bother. Keep up the good blogs.
about EGGS ON LEGS HI! YOUR PHOTO IS PRETTY GOOD!! i'm very happy that you like this city (because i live here!) ,hope you will come again and enjoy it ! ^o^
Nowhere Fast - Meat is Murder Swaino - 'I felt such a natural emotion' at your double blog comment that I 'nearly jumped in the ocean'.
Here's yours:' good times for a change, see the life I've had can make a good man turn bad'.
No Dumb... right Shaz, joke over, get the irish jig aff. Was in one of your other fav places for Easter - sunny Roma, Lu loved it, part from the walking. Partook in a bit of food of course, licking lips as typing
Fruits of the forest My oracular powers (google) tell me that a chinotto is not, in fact, a facial feature from a Simpsons character (arf), but in fact:
"a small bitter citrus fruit from the chinotto, or "myrtle-leaved orange" tree (Citrus aurantium var. myrtifolia). The tree grows to a height of 3m and can be found in Liguria, Tuscany, Sicily and Calabria regions of Italy. The chinotto is an essential flavor component of most italian bitter amari digestifs, and of the popular Campari liqueur."
Campari and soda. How sophisticated. Mind Leonard Rossiter used to advertise it in the 70's?
"A soft drink by the same name (Chinotto) is produced from the juice from the chinotto fruit and herb extracts. It appearance is similar to that of Coca-Cola. It is said to taste similar to naturally flavoured cola or Campari, with a distinctive bitterness. Chinotto soda dates back to the 1950s, and is produced locally in Italy by different small producers. It is predominantly consumed in Italy and Malta, but recently San Pellegrino, the carbonated water company, has started mass production and export in collaboration with Nestlé, with the brand name "Chinò"."
So, its liquid Chinos! there you go-
Al, btw, good to see that you have returned to the righteous path, my son, and are bearded up again. Too much flesh on the chin- well, you can have too much of a good thing, eh?
Hullo!! We did a big fat trip a wee while ago covering Bonnie Scotland (our home), France, Spain, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and China. Then we came home and had a lovely baby girl called Beth and Alan went back to work. Beth is 14 months old now (I know - where does the time go??) and we haven't been anywhere exotic for yonks. Consequently we are now 'dormant bloggers' which makes us feel a bit dreary, so we better get our skates on and find some good places to visit and report on pronto!!.................... full info
