Great History Lesson
Thanks for sharing insight into your trip. It reminds me of the Kaleidescope toy when I was growing up. I realize how much of the world I am ignorant of, and how we need to get around the world more. Please keep up the GREAT writing!!

The Food Channel
My oh my, it certainly sounds like some tasty vittles can be had in Portugal. I know they won't have any food on the boat, so it probably is a good idea to stock up before. Honestly, it sounds like you are having a great time, and I hope it continues.

Thanks for Tuning Us In
Hi David & Fran, I was hoping you would write about your trip. Most likely I will never visit some/most of the places that you travel to, so for me it is like having a history trip written just for me, and I learn at least 1 thing new each blog. Enjoy your trip, and I look forward to Page 2 in my lesson. With Love & Respect, Tom & Carolyn

My Back
My back hurts from just hearing of the van ride, forget about what would have been in my tummy. We had something similar in South Africa, and a Morphine Drip was definitely needed! Have a safe trip home after an action-packed vacation! Llama-less Tom

The Wine
True to you comment, you did not mention the menu! I am glad the wine is good! There has to be SOME protein in it! Carry on!

Great Update
Hi Team Horvitz, Carolyn said the same about Santiago; lackluster at best! Thanks for your update, and I hope you find exceptional wine soon! OH, The Grapes of Pleasure! With Love & Respect, Tom & Carolyn ( Whisper sneaked in too!)

Translator
Hi David & Fran, when I told Carolyn that you were going to Chile, the first thing she said was they will need a translator, and I am just the woman to do it. She is fluent in English, Spanish, & Portuguese, and is such a world-class traveler (think My Cousin Vinnie), that she thinks she would be a wonderful addition to any future trips. She is just learning French for the record. Now for the serious part. I really enjoy following your travels, and I think the dogs do too. I bring copies to read to them, although it is not truly a bedtime story, they do yawn, but I think that is out of habit, not boredom. Have fun, and I am on to your next post! Hanoi traffic
...pedestrians crossing the street would be texting or e-mailing on their phone, almost oblivious the moving traffic that surrounded them.. The traffic was THE outstanding Hanoi highlight for me.

WOnderful Phrasing
You have style, and know how to use it! Writing is one of your many fortes, and you don't do a "Bad Job" of it either. Have much fun and tremendous experiences on your trip!

Great Writing
Hi David, Your writing class sure paid off. Your delivery is very lucid, and when intended, quite comical. I was not aware that Greg and Lizzie accompanied you; a family safari! See you on Tuesday. Tom

faithfull blog follower
I have been following your every word, even thinking of doing some copying and passing it off as my African journal -just changing the names of the places we stayed. (What's a little plagiarizing between family) Our trips seem to have been very similar. In awe of your ability to remember all the details, though those Japanese ladies did stand out. Looking forward to getting together and swapping stories. The main difference between jam and jelly is the consistency - jelly wobbles like my upper arms! Love Judi

jam vs jelly
jelly is strained, jam has fruit in it.
