I was there... ...and the human traffic jam was as described. Even with 14 photographers with 30+ cameras being there, we have seen no good picture of the jam.
We have seen remarkable pictures of locals living their lives, in a context that is dramatically different from what we are used to in the United States. I was in India 36 years ago. The progress I have noticed is the beggars are fed, none are carrying dead babies for sympathy, and the food market has an abundance of vegetables that look better than what we get at home, spices, and more. My perception is the infrastructure, teeming horn blowing motor vehicle, bicycle, cows, elephant and human traffic, and trash everywhere have not noticeably changed.
So far, this has been a fabulous trip, even though I am one of two non-picture takers (Erica being the other).
I am looking forward to the camel fair tomorrow, and hold out modest hope for an interesting 5 hour bus drive to get us there.
Love
Dan
Hi David! It is fun being on the other end of this blogging thing. Love reading your entries. We are heading out soon for a Obama Victory party. Hopefully that is the case! Please dont kill Vincent. We don't want the next time we see you to be in a Delhi prison! xo
days 2 and 3 First one has to go back to each day to see comments. Mine was there. You are doing a great job of making me feel that I am right there with you. Frankly, I think I am close enough. While you are doing this, I am emailing with Gaia Gaja this morning--29 years old--and organize next years white truffle and wine trip. When do you leave India? I think you should stop in Paris for three days of cleansing. Don't get up too early--polls will stay open very light and all you will get is predictions based upon exit interviews. Come home soon.
Thanks Connie and I just read your blog. Great job! Made me feel as if I was there with you. Instead I am going for eye exam this morning. Your blog has made me 110% sure that India is not on my cruising list or any other list as I cannot stand to smell Indian restaurants in New York, yet alone India as discribed. Vincent seems to be your type of guy!!! I hope you do not come home in a sling or need to see Dr. Sonderling.
Thank you... I am leaving next week with my neice starting in Mumbai, travelling on our own, it is great to read about your adventure, I'm very excited to go! Is there something that you wish you brought or wish you had left home?
you are smiling Hard to believe you are smiling using an Apple. This could be the beginning of a major life style change. Be careful. Next thing you will have an iphone. New Blackberry Storm is out!!

It looks like the quality of the trip improves as you get away from large cities. Don't let the camels bite you.
