Soon (probably this spring) I'll be traveling to the Emerald Isle on a tour of the Gaeltachtaí - the Irish-speaking areas of the island. These are mostly in remote areas along the southern and western coast. I'd like to visit them all, but for this trip I'll concentrate on Ring and Kerry. Need to set up some articles and reports. I did a practical packout w/ daypack today and my shit is WAY too heavy still, even without the SLR. The bare minimum of stuff is the medication, which I literally need to live, and the computer stuff. Just these, along with a couple spare pairs of socks and underwear, will fit in a 20L daypack. Add the camping gear and some more clothes, and suddenly the 90L ruck is weighed down. I'm not sure how that happens. I swear the camping gear just on its own doesn't look that much, and the clothes aren't so much either. I need to do a min/max packout and see what the difference is. No idea how to associate blog entries with trips yet Beer Camera gear. If everything's too heavy anyway, why not pack it? ... read more

My virtual packing list below, and my real packing to the right. I have no idea why this interface insists on putting giant annoying spaces in the list. I swear I deleted them a dozen times. It also keeps trying to bold everything. In any case, I have decided that I'm going to take a trip early on next year. I won't be able to afford to make it a non-working trip, so the equipment in the electronics category is obligatory. I think I'm going to have to cut out the photography equipment. As much as I love taking pics on a nice big SLR with fast primes, the weight is just getting to be too much here.
