A beer bike! OMG I love it. Trust the Germans to come up with that!
20th September 2012

Absolutely!
The beer bike looked like lots of fun. No telling what kind of chaos we will observe at Oktoberfest. Glad to hear from you.
19th September 2012

so jealous!
I wanna go back! Glad you're enjoying Deutschland :D
19th September 2012

Indeed I can understand wanting to go back.
We are now in Southern Germany and having a good time. Oktoberfest is just around the corner.

Berlin - Danke!
Thanks for writing about Berlin. We always wondered if we could afford it on our meager budget... I love the pics of the wall and I hope to get there soon! I noticed you used airbnb for your accommodations. We use that, too; in fact, I'm writing from a place we found on airbnb. Have you ever used vrbo? We seem to like the places a bit better than airbnb. Nanci

Hi Nancy,
Great hearing from you. No we have not heard of vrbo. We will check it out. We've just used airbnb in Copenhagen and Berlin and the Berlin experience was much better. We found Berlin very affordable but we've just come from Iceland, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and Denmark and they are sinfully expensive. I think you would enjoy Berlin. We were very happy to spend a week there. love your blogs and can't wait to meet you. Chat soon. Merry Jo and Dave

Oh Yeah.
Sign me up for that beer and story of your visas. What a great blog this was. I am glad that you have some time to simply wander around as you wish. I have been on the fence about going to Berlin, but after reading your blog, I am stepping off the fence; I want to go. Also, I can tell that you are enjoying your new camera lens. There were some spectacular pictures in this blog. Be well and have fun

Hello dear friend
Can't tell you how much we miss hanging out with you. Always good to have a note from you. Seriously, Berlin is a fabulous city. We are so happy we went. The beer bike looked like so much fun. Yes, the new lens is doing its job. It was wonderful being in once place for an entire week. Gosh, we needed that. We are now northwest of Munich and have many tales to tell. We had a beer at 4pm relaxing before dinner and a marvelous bottle of Merlot with dinner. I'm feeling no pain and happy to be exploring cute towns in southern Germany. All is well. I'm sure we will chat soon. Be good.

Germany
Hi guys, As you may recall MJ, I went to Munich and surrounding countryside along with Vienna in 1974. It was beautiful! Breathtaking even. I have always hoped to go back. Berlin is on my bucket list also. I can't wait to hear of your travels there. Take care and have fun. Love
18th September 2012

Hi Patty,
I don't think I knew you went to Europe in 1974. I'd love to hear the details of the trip when we get back. You would really love Berlin. You and Lois should plan a trip. The metro is amazing and the Germans are always on time.

Hello Mildred and Hank
We have our laptop with us. In the evening after we have had a full day of exploring we make a few notes. It makes it easy to write the blog. We took the train to Munich today so now we explore the south. Glad you are following along and thanks for keeping in touch.

Art, architecture and yummy treats!
I love Berlin, so I'm thrilled that you got to bounce around it with great explorations and gorgeous photos. I love that you arrived there by way of Myanmar (visas). Surprises and unexpected detours--some of the best parts of travel!

Surprises and unexpected detours

Spent the day on the train from Berlin to Munich. Having a fine time. I didn't realize you came here on the honeymoon. I do remember a few of your European stories....not wanting to pay for the restroom and such. Keep in touch.

Ministry of Elves
I've got a roommate in my hostel dorm from Iceland and have told him all about you two. He was excited that you visited so many of his great sites. Also told me that there's a Minister of Elves in the govt that checks out new building sites with locals to make sure they don't interfere with known elf spots! So all those fairy tales you've been hearing are true!

I believe it
We heard so many stories about the elves and trolls. you gotta watch out. Great history. We were so glad we won't to the western fjords because so few people go there.

Beautiful Copenhagen

Following you from Panarea
Here we sit on the Island of Panarea in the Aeolian Islands off of Sicily. Beautiful scenery, people and weather. Not much to see of historical value besides the Archeological Museum in Lipari (on the Island of Lipari) which was very nice. This enforced relaxation is awesome and unusual for us. We go to Sicily on Saturday and will spend the following 10 days seeing all the sights so we'll be on the go and the Island interlude will be just a lovely memory . Always love your posts.....looking forward to Berlin. Sonja

Beautiful Copenhagen

Hello Sonja
Your climate is a bit warmer than ours. I'm glad you are moving to Sicily soon. That is a place I dream of going and look forward to hearing your impressions. Forced relaxation is a great idea.

Trying again
Im not sure if my last comment got through so I'll try again. The pedestrians should be the ones wearing the helmets in Copenhagen as for airbnb, we've been using it extensively all year, in fact we bunked down right now in a magnificent apartment in Annecy for a fraction of the price of equivalent hotels. The prices on this site are the attraction. The downside is what you've already touched on, communication and having someone to actually in when you arrive, particularly if your arrival time is not set in stone, which it rarely is. Make sure to read the reviews so you can read between the lines of the owner's spin.

Hello again
I assume you received our response but just in case. I appreciate your views on airbnb. The apartment we are currently in Berlin is excellent. Far better than the one in Copenhagen. I think this is an excellent way to have that home feeling and live in a neighborhood instead of in the middle of the tourist crap. We are very happy with this decision. Thanks for the feedback as we are still very new at this. We will continue to utilize this. Much cheaper than hotels. As you say, communication and the key hand off are the bigger issues.
