ROSA JAMAICA IS ITS NAME. The flower you saw at the market it´s called ´rosa jamaica¨, it is used to make a delicious red beverage, which is very refreshing, you just ask for rosa jamaica at taquerias or restaurants, if they have it.
Santiago has always been very primitive, as a history remark, when the spanish conquistadors got there, the tzutuhil tribe which are people of Santiago and San Pedro were at war against the cackchiquels tribe, which are the people of Pana and surrounding villages they made an alliance with the spanish to defeat the tzutuhils. when the tzutuhils saw themselves outnumber, they all flee to the volcanoes, many of them died of starvation, but they were not conquered like other tribes, the catholic religion did a better job in trying to civilized them.
REMEMBER Clay and Ann, as you might know, I´ve been checking your pictures, I think you have captured the essence of the western part of Guate. I´m a guatemalan living in Houston. I was raised in Pana. and we have family in Santiago. Close were you are staying my father had a house. we enjoyed traveling from Pana to Santiago every now and then to visit our relatives. If you walk to the right were you are staying on the shores of the lake, and walk around, you will get to a preservation site, right on front of an island and volcano, you might want to stroll around an venture finding that place. there is a nice beach called el arenal, tell the guide to take you there, you will really enjoy it. Thank you for being so nice to guatemalans. In Pana you might wanna check hotel Atitlan for its gardens, and close to there there is another park where you will see spider monkeys, a water fall and a zip line.
Decision Making How did you decide on Morocco as a final destination and how did you decide to start wandering in Central America. I have traveled in Central America and enjoyed it but never felt I had enough time . Two months should be great. Will follow with envy, have a great life.

Making our long-time dream of foreign service become a reality, we sold our house and cars, closed our law practice and said a loving goodbye to family and friends. We began our trek with the Peace Corps in January 2013, in the Kingdom of Morocco, with enthusiasm and honor. For those of you who follow along, we will do our best to help you experience our new adventure with us.
