A verrrry merry Christmas from Stellenbosch!!! We packed up our tent ‘motel 6’ for the last time as we left bush camping behind and began our journey back to civilisation in South Africa. After three nights in Swakopmund I think we realised that we actually enjoy bush camping a lot more than the more westernised parts of Africa. When we are all in the wilderness sleeping in tents, cooking off the back of the truck and huddled around the camp fire - all completely in the middle of nowhere there is a sense of being in the ‘real Africa’. However there are of course upsides to heading back to some sort of normality – an actual toilet (rather than a hole in the ground) and a hot shower, bliss! The day we crossed the border from ... read more

Hi everyone! Coming to the end of our time in Namibia now. We will be crossing the Orange River this afternoon and entering South Africa. Have absolutely loved it. I don't think I have been anywhere with more striking landscapes and huge open spaces. The wilderness just goes on forever - we travelled for a whole day through the Namib desert to a place called Solitaire and when we finally got there it was nothing more than a few outhouses. Apt name though…On the plus side there was a larger than life German baker there who made the best apple pie ever! Apparently Ewan MacGregor stopped here for some home baking whilst filming the "Long Way Down" series. We left Swakupmond a few days ago now. Had a really good time there - and yes, the ... read more

Hi everyone, This is James here putting in his first entry of the trip! Where to begin... We are now in Swakopmund which is one of Namibias biggest towns. The place is a haven for backpackers looking to jump out planes or rush down massive sand dunes the size of 30 storey buildings. Really nice vibe to the place and great to finally hit civilisation after a few weeks bushcamping. Quite bizarre though as it is hard to believe we are still in Africa. Very strong German influence in Swakopmund - from the buildings to the people to the food. Went out last night and did a bit of partying which was fun and bit different to the chilled out few weeks we have had in the wilderness. Also tried our hand at sandboarding yesterday. Probably ... read more

Our next stop was a 2 night bush camp in the Okavango Delta. The Okavango is the worlds largest inland Delta and is home to a huge variety of wildlife. For this trip we packed up 3 days worth of food and clothes as we were camping in the back of beyond with no water, no toilet, nothing other than bush for miles! When we arrived at the Delta a group of guides from the local village awaited us and James and I were assigned 'Jakey' as our guide for the 3 days. We then hopped aboard our mode of transport for the next few days - the Mokuru, a shallow wooden boat were Jakey polled us to our camp! This took just over an hour and was the most relaxing way we have ever travelled, ... read more

Hello again! The start of our globe trotting adventure was off to a rocky start when we weren't sure if would even make it out of Bonnie Scotland due to the snow. The snow was then the least of our worries when James had a sudden panic that we had missed our flight altogether - luckily he was looking at our arrival time in Dubai!! After a few nervous stomach flipping moments we made it onto our flight and arrived in Jo'burg in one piece (as did our bags!). We had one night in Jo'burg before catching our flight to Livingtone the following day. On arrival at 'Grubby's Grotto', Livingstone, we met some of our tour group. They are a great group of people, 19 to start with and towards the end of the 3wk tour ... read more

Hello there! I thought I would get the blog ball rolling, so here goes... It is complete madness! After what feels like an age of saving, planning and anticipating - our big adventure is FINALLY upon us!! We have spent most of today sliding around in what is the worst snow fall the UK has seen in decades. We look like two mad hatters gathering the last of our sunshine essentials, whilst most folk stock up on winter warmers, woollies and wellies. The reality of leaving home for such a long time hasn't quite kicked in yet, I have no idea what awaits us. I hope to see some beautiful places and meet some amazing people, all of which we will keep you posted on. Anyhoo we are set to leave for the airport in 7hrs ... read more
