Hello love. I am proud of you for realizing what you had to do to keep your self going and for plunging head first in to this new culture. I fI can ever assist you in any way, let me know. Oh yes, when you get back to the states, you are comming straight to my house to teach me to cook actual enchiladas.. deal?

hooray for chelsita! wow, chelsea! you are so brave and giving!
do you think maybe some children's story books in english would help? i have plenty and would gladly send some over.
also, i'm co-leading jill's junior troop this year and i think the girls would love to help the kids there in some way.. let me know what how we could be useful!
ahhh my besttty. sounds llike everythings going well. you must be exahusted tho. i would be. i mean, i love the heat and all, but just being out there for tennis or at the beach i get sooo wiped out and im not even doing half of what you are doing. well, get some sleep on the weekend now! and im sorry about you wallet being stolen. was it the fake on or the real one? anyway, ill see your updates soon! love and miss you<3
flash cards Hi Chelsita,
An idea for the younger kids might be flash cards. You know, a picture of a dog on one side and the english word on the other side. To make it more fun, without "punishing" the slower kids, keep track of all the correct answers. Once you reach a preset goal of say, 25 or 100 correct answers then the whole class gets some sort of special prize - a piece of candy, a sticker, game time, etc. It may take several days to accumulate enough correct answers to reach the goal, but that's OK. If the class helps you keep track of the numbers, that also can be done in English.
This can be adapted for older kids by having the Spanish word on one side, rather than a picture. Perhaps the older kids can help you find pictures for the flash cards, and actually help make the younger kid's flash cards as part of their own lessons.
Love you,
Mom
Did some research for you. I found a few sites with ESL games. I know that some of them are online games but I figure you could use them for ideas.

Missing you at Pfeiffer Hi Chelsea,
WOW - your trip sounds so exciting and interesting. I was glad to see you at Youth 2007. All our news students are here at Pfeiffer and have begun classes - I sure did miss you on registration day - but I know you'll be here next year and your full tuition scholarship is here waiting for you! Your mom visited our church last Sunday (I was at a UM Youth event so I missed her :( I am hoping she'll visit again). She left info about your blog and I am so happy she did - cause I have had fun reading about your adventures. I hope you'll be able to post some photos too. I'll keep reading and staying in touch through your blog.

well, cant wait to see the next update! love and miss you<3
cultural differences Hi Chelsea,
I suspect you have experienced a big cultural difference with the "hanging out" Do you think the girls are very likely home cooking and cleaning and don't have the leisure time to hang out? Or is it a cultural expectation that girls just do not go and hang out?
Your commute to work sounds amazing. And don't you worry about teaching - I am sure the principal is taking your fluency level into account. Do the little ones have nap time?
Love and kisses,
Mom
I can't wait Hey Chelsea, I just can't wait to go to the Polkton, NC post office (Polkton has a population of about a 1000 people) and hand them a letter addressed to Nicaragua! I bet that will be a first for them.
Cheers, Mom
Wow... Chelsea I can not even think of a word to describe you... you're selfless and brave, loving and just purley amazing! I love you very much and I'm praying for you and the Project all the time!
CHELSEA!<3 Chels! It sounds like you made it there alright, and you are getting around easily and hopefully understanding everything easily too. It sounds like you are living with a wonderful family, going to meet tons, and TONS of loving people and are going to be just fine. Hope you like the church! Good luck learning more spanish and waking up really, really early to go to the project, too! Also, have a fun time teaching and being with David and all the other wonderful little children and adults =) I will talk to you later, GOOD LUCK AGAIN. I miss you, and love you very much.
