Halloween is busting out all over Austin. I've been seeing people in stores and other places wearing Halloween atire. Today was another beautiful day in Austin; unfortunately it is our last. We went walking this morning and came back to the condo for an omlet breakfast on the patio. Began buttoning up the condo to leave and had an afternoon cocktail on the patio before leaving for the airport. Got to the airport and had the usual Salt Lick BBQ combo platter with brisket and sausage. What a way to end the time in Austin. In a stark contrast to our flight down to Austin, which was nearly 5 hours late, the flight back to the Twin Cities was about a half-hour early.... read more

Today was unbelievable. We got up late and went walking and bought the Sunday Austin newspaper. Came back and had French toast and Andouille sausage. Breakfast on the patio, The weather is great, sunny with a high near 80. This afternoon we went to the South Austin Museum of Popular Culture. Its things like this that make Austin weird. Quite the place, as you may be able to tell from the photographs. The museum had a number of posters from the old Vulcan Gas Company, which was a music club back in the late 60s at 316 Congress. I used to go to that club when I was down here 40 years ago. Afterward,we came back to the condo and then had Lemon Martinis before supper. Ate supper outside on the patio. Beautiful night to do ... read more

Today we went downtown to the Austin Farmers Market. Bought some green tomatoes, arugula, Round Rock Honey and Texas Olive Ranch Olive Oil. Used the green tomatoes and arugula make a panini sandwich with pancetta, fried green tomatoes, Provolone cheese and arugula. This afternoon we were sitting out on the patio enjoying a Paloma, and we started to see many, many dark looking butterflies flying overhead. There is a large emergence of snout butterflies in Central Texas right now. When there is a drought followed by heavy rains, the rains kill parasites that feed on the butterflies. The spiny hackberry plant which the butterflies like to feed on is plentiful, so they are all around. It is quite an interesting sight. Today also marks the 43rd anniversary of my going into the Army. That is when ... read more

It may take me longer to get back to Texas than it did to return from there 40 years ago tomorrow. We are at the airport but the inbound aircraft was delayed. So the flight is four-and-a-half hours late. It will be nearly 3:30 am before we arrive at the condo. We are spending the time eating at the airport. I put up a picture of Mom (Grandma) at Wolfgang Pucks Express. I also added a picture of the genuine Texas Bowl of Red like yall had the other night.... read more
