Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind. - Seneca July 14, 2009, Tuesday, Potsdam to Berlin and back to Potsdam, Germany. The location of this campground requires some effort and time to get into the city of Berling. From our readings, there simply are not any campgrounds closer. So we bike to the bus/tram station, take the bus to the train station, and take the train to Berlin. No matter how much reading and map studying we do before we start off in a new city, step out of the train station and it takes a while to get orientated. Before long we are at Brandenburg Gate and history is alive. We are walking over what was the Berlin Wall! This once divided city has made major efforts in the monumental ... read more

I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. - Robert Louis Stevenson July 11, 2009, Saturday, Copenhagen, Denmark, Absalon, Campground Some people never learn from their mistakes, so we are off on our bikes again to the city. Biking is a serious mode of transportation in Denmark. There are bike lanes, vehicle lanes, pedestrian lanes and lights for each and every lane. Some trikes are equipped for children, babies, dogs, groceries, large packages and mail delivery. The Copenhagen Post estimates that there may be more bikes than Danes in Denmark. The weather promises to be a bit better today and we will follow a bike tour of Copenhagen. The ride began at the Radhus, a busy spot downtown and then winds down to ... read more

We are Amsterbam and will be moving to Germany on Monday Travel is great Iceland to Norway to Sweden to Denmark I have found out that there ain't no surer way to find out whether you like people or hate them than to travel with them. - Mark Twain July 8, 2009, Wednesday, Reykjvik to Keflavik, Iceland to Oslo, to Utne Campground, Norway By 4:50AM, we were on the bus to the airport and all connections went smoothly. During the flight back to Oslo, I thought of all the things that could go wrong with our RV sitting for four days. The worry was all in vain, the house battery kept the fridge/freezer going and the vehicle battery started right up and off we went, away from the hustle/bustle of the city. After driving south for ... read more

Sorry it has been so long we have been busy having fun Wandering re-establishes the original harmony which once existed between man and the universe. ~Anatole France July 6, 2009, Monday, The Farm, to Kerw Crater. to Icelandic Ponies, to Skalholt Church, to Geysir, to Gulfoss, to Pinavellis, NP, to Reykjavik, to Hertz, to our apartment in Reykjavik, Iceland. Breakfast at the farm is 8 to 9, we are awake at 5 AM, so we decide to eat our banana and begin our tour of Iceland. Our first stop along 35 is Krew Crater, a 55 meter deep volcanic crater, about 3,ooo years old. It is part of a group of volcanic hills and is now filled with water creating a lake. Just up the road is Skalholt an ancient manor farm and bishopric whose history ... read more

I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. ~Robert Louis Stevenson July 4th, 2009, Saturday, Ekeberg Camping, Oslo, to Oslo Airport to Keflavik Airport, to the Blue Lagoon, Iceland to Farm Guesthouse near Selfoss, Iceland. After a night of storms, the weather has finally cooled down. Finding our way to the airport was relatively easy, UNTIL,,, we drove down a ramp to long term parking, it was underground parking with a clearance of 2.2 meters…we are 3.4 meters…Oops! After a U-turn and a very slow drive up the “wrong” way, Bob maneuvered another U-turn across three lanes of on-coming traffic not expecting to see a big camper going the wrong way!! After catching our breath at departures, we programmed the GPS for Gardermoen ... read more

No one realizes how beautiful it is to travel until he comes home and rests his head on his old, familiar pillow. ~Lin Yutang July 1, 2009, Wednesday, Laerdal CG to Borgund Stave Church to Hemsdal, Norway. From Laerdal we drove to the Borgund Stave Church…WOW! It is like a pagoda style fancy wooden carved church. The timber for the church was felled during the winter of 1180, and the building erected soon after. The complicated structure was built by traveling craftsmen with skill and experience. It has stood in this location for 800 years! At the time the Ruler of Norway embraced Christianity and thus the people of Norway did, however, some old beliefs lingered. On the outside of the church there are obvious crosses, but also dragons (just in case). The wooden carving ... read more

July 21, 2009. Just a quick note, to let our followers know, we are alive and well, but have not had internet connection, thus our blogs are a bit delayed. At the present we have just arrived in Amsterdam. I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list. - Susan Sontag June 29, 2009, Monday, Tvinda CG, to Voss Train Station, to Bergen, back to Voss and onto Taulen Campground, Norway. We decided we needed to see Bergen, before leaving this area, so we are off on the train from Voss to Bergen, about 1 ½ hour trip. The very first buildings in Bergen were built alongside the wharf called Bryggen. In 1360 the German Hanseatic merchants set up one of their import/export offices in Bryggen and dominated trade for the next 400 years. It ... read more

Your true traveller finds boredom rather agreeable than painful. It is the symbol of his liberty - his excessive freedom. He accepts his boredom, when it comes, not merely philosophically, but almost with pleasure. - Aldous Huxley June 27, 2009, Saturday, Gol, Norway to Hardangervidda N.P., to Voring foss (waterfall) to the ferry at Brimnes to Bruravik then onto Voss, then to Tvinde Campground, outside Voss, Norway. With the summer night bright as daylight all the night long, even with an eye mask, we both were awake at 12, 2, and finally 5AM. We left Gol, and before too long we were in Hardangervidda, NP, it is like a “moonscape” no trees, we are up too high, shallow lakes, surrounded by lovely mountains, still snow covered, glaciers, lots of huge boulders, and a very long ... read more

Who lives sees much. Who travels sees more. June 25, 2009,Thursday, Ekeberg Camping, Oslo, Norway. We are now experts on the bus system (ho ho) and know how to get to and from the city. The Frogner Park is our first destination. We still have our 24 hour ticket good on all transportation systems, so we located the tram out to the park. This is a 75 acre park containing a lifetime of work by Norway’s greatest sculptor, Gustav Vigeland. From 1925 to 1943 he worked designing 192 bronze and granite statues, 600 figures each nude and unique. The garden is always open and free. It seems to be a city at play with youngsters and adults enjoying the great outdoors. Folks sunbathing, kids in the fountain, and people in the swimming pool all having ... read more
