Homeward Bound across The Nullarbor Plain Nullabor - Latin for Nullis Arboris, meaning no trees and that it was, a 146.6 kms of the longest straight stretch of road in Australia was a great drive that we enjoyed over two days and with two 45 minute time changes, stopping the first night at The Fraser Sheep Station, very nice spot, here our Barb got to sleep in a donga, next to a 60 plus year old fellow, who was cycling Australia, such a lucky girl! Then the second night was at The Nullarbor Motel (wouldn’t recommend). Crossing the Nullabor included passing 2 dead camels on the road, numerous kangi road kills and the amazing views of the Great Australian Bight and out to the Great Southern Ocean, all while we listened to either “Macca’s Australia All Over ... read more

Departed Monkey Mia and the dolphins about 9.15 and headed out to the Northwest coastal hwy south towards Geraldton, then turned east through the Wool Wagon Pathway and the vistas and pastures full of goats, sheep and lambs and then onto fields and fields of the most beautiful wildflowers, some of which looked so good we decided to get out and lie amongst, just for fun a photo opportunity. Camped the night along the road in amongst a bush setting of Hakea trees which made Barb feel very much at home. It turned out to be a busy road, with triple road trains going past every half hour transporting iron ore from a mine up the way to the Geraldton port, would take more than that to keep us 3 good sleepers awake, I reckon we’d ... read more

“And then there were three” Qantas flight 843 touched down at 12.50 and by 12.55 I had spotted Barb. Screams of joy, lots and lots of hugs and tears and grins from ears to ears while we waited for the Louis Vuitons to arrive, then out to the awaiting chariot and E for more hugs, laughs and screams of joy!!!!!! The happy drug had been swallowed in multi dosages and us three were about to float up to Cape Leveque on a major high. For 220kms the car was bursting with non-stop yackity, yack, and screams of laughter. Only time we drew air was when we pulled over for a cuppa and my famous egg sandwiches for afternoon tea. It was about 3.30 when we arrived at Cape Leveque’s Kooljiman Resort, a remote beach wilderness ... read more

Broome, Derby and backtracking a little on The Gibb River Rd. Our 4 days respite at The Frangipani apartments in Broome was a little subliminal. Even the road from Derby to Broome had a point of difference to start with - No corrigigaations and no red dust, --where were we going???? By now we had done some 9,000kms and 7,500 of them were on unsealed road, so reddish looking bumps etc had by then become the norm for us. On our way into Broome we stopped off at a roadside organic produce stand and topped up the F & V’s, yummy! Our Broome sojourn that we referred to in the last Blog was just what we needed to unravel the Bumps. The first night we visited the very long white sand cable Beach we enjoyed ... read more

Please note -the happy and friendly crew we met and got bogged in with at Manning Gorge, on The Gibb River Road, in The Gorge and then at dinner at the pub when we all hit Derby, after showers and shaves, such a great bunch of people, from all over the world, who made THE most of the 6 days the road was closed!!! The other great shot is of us crossing The King Edward river (with our skirt on the front, that is, the multi used tarp, to stop water going into the engine), which was kindly emailed to us by some lovely people we met on the other side of the river. Heather and her hubby were on a Kimberley Wilderness trip in a big bus and they took the shot of us to ... read more

The Kunnanurra Moon Experience and heading onto The Gibb River Road. Friday 1st June In Kunnannura for us was the beginning of getting packed up, 3 final loads of washing, topping up our food supplies, water, gas and petrol, checking over the car and trailer and generally getting ready for our early Sunday morning departure. kunnanurra had been great, but after 9 days in a caravan park we were ready now for the next stage of our Kimberley adventure, 4 wheel driving the famous Gibb River Road. But we still had the Ordmuster celebration of The Moon Experience Concert, on the banks of Lake Kunnanurra to attend on Saturday from 3.30pm to ???, hence our doing all the prep for the trip on the Friday. This concert is the biggest event that happens in downtown ... read more

Second entry -On the road again, Alice to Halls Creek, via The Tanami and The Great Sandy deserts. Great feeling, when E, me, the cruiser, Cyt, the trailer and Kimbo our good luck mascot from Tim and Charlotte,(see picture) and a few bottles of good red, turned left off the Stuart onto the Tanami heading West for 6 days crossing the desert into Western Australia and The Kimberleys. Two last calls, to brother Was and sister Jill, then we were out of communication till who knows when? The first of our 100 kms of the 1,100kms up the Tanami were sealed road, so we managed 2 more of our French lessons, c’est si bon!? From then on till the end for 1,100 kms plus some corrugations and beautiful red bull dust played havoc on our ... read more
