A late Happy Birthday (I'm glad to know I'm only two years older then you, Wimp, however, is FOUR years older, oh well). Your birthday sounded so wonderful. Would love to have spent it with you guys. Your travels sound so wonderful.
So much fun to see these since we were fortunate to visit Praque. Thanks again for the dinner and city tour!! It has been a very rainy winter here and we feel like we have surely grown web feet. Leaving soon for So. Ca AND Arizona. Have a granddaughter and great-grandchildren in Yuma so that will be one of our stops. Bev's husband is in the Marines and stationed there. Wimp had a prostrate scare but tests turned out negative so we have to watch the situation but are cleared for travel so away we go soon. Love hearing about your exciting life.

Happy day after your birthday, Billy!!!! I agree that your b-day sounded perfect. All the components of a happy day. I still have a mental picture of you two carrying gigantic cakes on the bus, and am a little disappointed that you took the easy way out:-)
Very interesting That's a very interesting collection! I did the same thing with Roman doorways, and granted, that became one of my Italian travel conclusion for years. Good luck with the collection, and Bon Voyage!
Happy {belated) Birthday, Bill! One of these days I will get a card to you on time. Sounds like you had a wonderful day, even without my good wishes! We miss you.
Love,
Margie

Librarians My sister was a page at the Fitchburg Public Library while in high school, and my Aunt Linda (who is deaf) worked in that same library for a number of years... Of course, I'm not a geek, so I have never worked in one... HAHAH (MagpieMidge)
Receiving the Blogs We are now receiving the blogs and enjoy them. We
also wish we were there . You make it sound so
interesting. I love the pics of the children,
They are so cute .
Thanks for opening up your world to us.
My first part-time job was as a Page in a library. By Page I don't mean a sheet of paper in a book or a youth being trained for the medieval rank of knight and in the personal service of a knight - I mean a kid who put books away. And believe you me, it was a hell of a lot of work. First you had to deal with the Dewey Decimal System, which I don't think the Czechs use. Then there was the physical aspect, especially dealing with carts with stubborn stuck wheels. Follow that by the sheer banality of the setting of a wee municipal library - not exactly babe central, let me tell you. The most difficult thing was trying not to read books while sorting them according to the DDS, and putting them away.

January 23 Thanks for including us. Bill, I'm assuming your health has greatly improved. What a wonderful opportunity to again be in Praque. Wish we could join you for a visit. Take care and keep in touch. Wimp and Connie
Must have been Barbara's "Goodnight Prayer!" Maybe you are getting older Bill (I guess we all are), but maybe you slept so well because of Barbara's wonderful goodnight prayer. The Meditation group lifted you up for a peaceful and sleep-enhanced flight.
Paul delivered your phone report to me, and I delivered it to the church during sharing. Everyone was delighted to hear you made it safe and sound.
We are now praying for warmth for you and Russia and other folks your way.
And oh yes - your laundry is dry and folded.
My friend and I went here in early December 2005. It had been snowing and was naturally cold. We had on tee-shirt and jumper, trousers, boots, socks, body warmers and a coat hat and gloves. We were chilly but the thought of all those people here with virtually no clothes on was unimaginable. The journey here was one of mixed feelings. My grandmother was born just outside Warsaw, came to England before Hitler ran riot, but in saying that most of her family were exterminated by this most sickest of men. I felt so sad on arrival at Birkenau. The thought of living (if that is what it can be called) I cannot imagine, and my thoughts and feelings are with those who died and of course, with those that managed to survive and their families.
In fact... In fact, these two statues are able to "draw" letters in the water. There is a computer system underneath the statues, which processes a text message and then the statues will "write" the text in the water! And there is a certain phone number where you can send an SMS and the statues will "write" the message for you!:) It's pretty funny.....
Fascinating Thank you for sharing the Jewish cemetery and their burial practices. I was recently in Sicily, and they employ a similar approach, albeit with fancy mausoleums. I have pictures posted online.
We are retired librarians. Nancy worked for the Board of Education and Bill operated a one person engineering library for a communications company. Travel has been one of our passions our entire marriage.
Originally we thought this blog would report only on our trip to Prague. However, we have decided to add entries and photos previous trips. We hope you enjoy them.
