It's all relative If you are in South America, you have to be prepared for racism. It's a fact of life down there and in most places, I noticed it, but it just wasn't as apparent. It was stark in Venezuela, it was harsh in Colombia too, but I also had the most fun ever in Colombia. It's all about what you choose to take offense to.
lol. Dude you just let a bitter taste in my mouth this early morning. Just landed in this socalled beautiful caucasian city a little earlier and I must say looking forward to seeing those subtle hints. It will be the ante up I need to use it against prospective clients I am visiting here. So far its been alright, than again I semi ´elite douche´ dan carlton. Will update accordingly.
thanks Hey Naeem,
Thanks for sharing yourself. God has given you such a voice. I sat down to my e-mail today, Thanksgiving day, and what I found myself doing was reading all of your blogs start to finish, previously only having read two. I feel you. Thanks. Sorry about the camera loss; theivery motivated by poverty gives perspective on the comparably posh lives of even our poorest here, huh?
xxoo, Gloria

hi you look great without a mustache - no preoccuparte (sp?). sorry about the ridiculous colombians. you are so cool! they missed a damned good chance to have a good conversation with a smart guy. fools. their loss.
South of the Border Stay Strong Bra! I experienced equally frustrating racism in Latin America as well. I think it helps us to better identify with our Afro-Latino hermanos y hermanitas.
These updates are awesome and keep your cool/safety as you trek unchartered waters.
Bas Actually I did notice a bit of prejudice on the coast, but it just wasn´t quite that stark.
I still haven´t been stopped at a border though. (knockonwood) we´ll see how Bolivia goes...
Sorry that you have to go home. I know you were enjoying taganga.

HEY BABE!!!!!
I was wondering why I hadn't heard from you in a minute, but I see you are wondering around Columbia. Be safe and contact me when you get back, I will be in D.C. soon. Love you!!!!! :-)
That's too Bad Reading this made me think about what Mos Def said, outside the States you have "World Ni**er Law". My next thought is who the hell would NOT want to talk to you. You're Naeem Damn It! They're loss. It sucks to bet treated like that and it's good you didn't go there. Unlike our Gringo friends remember if something goes down I don't think our government is coming for us! :) As usual though you rose above it and still had a good time. Just continue to have fun and stay safe.
Brought me to tear, yeah, a single one. I laughed so hard at "Home of the Beautiful Caucasians" and your interpretation of "beloved" that a tear fell. Needless to say, it took me awhile to stop laughing, and read on to the details of the racism that you encountered. I am truly sorry that you had such "luck" the first night. Good move not "catching" an international case though;)
Happy to hear from you yesterday Naeem, "I was most happy to hear from you and thank you very much". I am still on cloud nine and don't know if I will ever come down. Nekhakeh wrote me the best birthday card. It really touched my heart. When he wrote that I said, Whooooa - He really did it.
I love you and be safe.
Love Grandma.
Transcribed by LaChaun - Grandma saw your travel blog for the first time and wanted to leave you a message.
Not everyone is a Casanova... Oh Casanova! Great efforts at attempting to show the men how to grab and keep a lady's interest. Unfortunately, some will never learn. Not you of course ;-) Currently, still interested...
Very awesome that you were able to experience Independence Day. And even MORE awesome that you can get coffee on the street from a steel backpack! A cafe lover's dream come true!!! (No worries, I am seriously working on my addiction...).
Love the Pix I enjoy reading your blog and I love the pictures! I wish i was there, but it is relaxing to see the blog and know that you are going well.
Naeem's Travels I continue to be amazed by your travels. I enjoy reading these whenever I can plus, whenever someone at work doesn't believe you are doing all of this I just pull up the trusty travel blog. You're the talk of my section. But mostly everyone comes away from it inspired. Keep it up and be safe.
Nice differentiation Seems like it'd be really interesting to hear an explanation of "putas" v. "chicas" v. "mujeres" in Spanish. And of course, nice pictures:-)
