Beautiful Belgrade...what a city! I have to say, when we first got off the bus and started walking to our hostel we were really not sure about the city we were in. Abandoned buildings, graffiti everywhere, we felt a little unsafe as we made our way down the backstreets of Belgrade to the Spirit Hostel which was to be our home for the next few nights. But the longer you spend there and the more you understand the history of what the city has been through, unattractive though it may be on the surface, the more the beauty of it grows on you. It is a city of contrasts with small underground bars found next to blaring, show-offy ‘Silicon Valley’ and by the time we left, we both thought that the longer you stayed there, the ... read more

Blog number two coming to you from Montenegro! We are currently sunning ourselves on the beach and swimming in the beautiful Adriatic....but we’ll tell you all about that later, this blog is all about Istanbul! First and foremost we have to say how much we loved this city. The city itself is beautiful, and enjoying a cup of Turkish coffee while the call to prayer echoes around you is enchanting, but what made it amazing were the people. We have been to a lot of places and can safely say that we have never felt so welcomed or had people go so far out of their way to help us as the Turks did. It all started with me (pat on the back for Sarah) picking the best hostel to stay at. The New Backpackers Hostel/Siva ... read more

The first blog of our new adventure! As we write this we are lying in bed in Belgrade having cups of tea and lazing our morning away...we are on holidays after all! We are two weeks into our ten weeks of travel and thought it high time we update you all on what we are doing. The plan over the next ten weeks is to try to do one blog for each country (ish)...and if we can’t think of enough to write we will just bombard you with photos! Of course, we don’t really expect anyone but our families to read what we write...so for everyone else just enjoy the pics! J To start off we need to cast our minds back to London...ah London...our second home. It was so good/familiar/exciting to be back in our ... read more

We have been in Goa for almost three weeks now and life has slowed right down to a snails pace. The days here are so hot you can’t possibly expel any energy between nine and five. The best we can do is walk to the beach to sunbathe and then of course enjoy a little swim to cool down occasionally. The heat makes us so tired. It has been a challenge just to muster up enough energy to finally start this blog. The nights are bliss. Once the sun finally buggers off and the cool night air rolls in, you can stay nice and dry, without the sweat rolling down your back. Since we have been here the sun has been a formidable force, each day it has been relentlessly shining bright and damn hot. It ... read more

We took a 14 hour taxi from Rishikesh to make it here to Manali. We shared it with Dani from our trek. The drive was a long painful journey of slow windy roads. What made it more uncomfortable was our driver, he was really creepy and quite rude to us all. He would stare inappropriately at the girls and seemed totally unimpressed with my presence. There was no friendly conversation, although anytime one of the girls was by themselves, me and the other out of the car or asleep, he would try and strike up some weird conversation. Neither felt very comfortable and I was getting some unusual glares in the mirror. I moved to the front seat at one point, so the girls could have the back. He didn’t like this change and at any ... read more

After finishing the Rajasthan Tour we were anxious to get up north to Rishikesh where we assumed the weather would be cooler and where tourism for westerners was a little more rife. We caught an early train out of Dehli to reach Haridwar 4-5 hours later.. Shortly after we were seated on the train I began to get intense stomach cramps.. My paranoia of getting sick here was becoming a realisation, luckily we came prepared and I searched my backpack for some medication and quickly swallowed 2 tablets and just half an hour later the pain subsided.. And that was that. From Haridwar we took our first public bus to Rishikesh. The bus cost us just 30 rupees and although it was only 25 km to Rishikesh the trip took almost an hour.. The bus ride ... read more

A cow walks aimlessly down a busy road. A hawker spots a tourist from afar and prepares their gimmick for action. A women sells fresh fruit on the side of a busy polluted road. A dog relieves himself in the middle of a crowded bazaar. A family of five fly past on their barely safe motorbike. Some not so uncommon sights to see here…amazing, frustrating, colourful, filthy…we can tell already we are going to have a love/hate relationship with India. The first thing that anyone is going to notice when first travelling in India is the attention you get as a foreigner. Everyone just stares, mostly males, and mostly at me. We have people grabbing us to get their photos taken with us and others coming up to shake our hands…it’s crazy! At one of the ... read more

Sarah writes… Hong Kong….what an incredible place. A huge international city with skyscapers, designer shops and amazing restaurants…but at the same time, you can walk down one of the little side streets and come across a small shop selling dried seafood, or a little stall with traditional Chinese medicines. A city of many contrasts, and one we really enjoyed exploring. Oh, and it has Disneyland. Can’t beat that! We managed to find our hostel fairly easily…after walking up and down the street many times we finally spotted the very small plaque advertising the “Yes Inn“…we then had to go to the 11th floor, and walk around a maze of corridors, before finally spotting the name painted on a wall with an arrow pointing us in the right direction. But that wasn’t all! After checking in, the ... read more

Konichiwa! Our adventure continues! We‘ve now sadly left Tassie to carry on with our ‘round the world‘ tour. First stop was Tokyo, which was the perfect place to start! This place is buzzing, it gave us a real charge and brought back our enthusiasm for travelling again! Things got a bit too comfortable for us in Tassie… but we are certainly more upbeat now. Tokyo is such a crazy city, but extremely well executed at the same time. It’s undoubtedly the cleanest city I have ever been to …everything is presented to absolute perfection, nothing less. The streets…where no smoking is allowed, except for designated smoking areas, were spotless. The food….incredible, mostly displayed outside the restaurants in glass casings…real food is not displayed but plastic models of the real stuff…even drinks are on display (without missing ... read more

Howdy All! Back in the hot seat I guess. Tokyo has been exactly what the doctor ordered, a big smack around the chops to get us back in action and renew our energy for some more travel. Tassie became a little too comfortable and I thought I was never going to leave the couch at mum and dads place. It’s been 3 months since we last did a blog entry, the last one covered our time in Ecuador, so we have been home for a while! It was like a nice big holiday from our intense travel schedule which is ideal with such a long stint (you need it) - I can see a lot of you tense up and get agitated here, you are already green enough with envy - no really, cos travelling is ... read more
