The Future? So . . . after all the great cooking and eating, when are you two opening your own Italian restaurant? I'm assuming you'll hire others to do the clean-up though!
Love all the great stories, the pics, the experiences . . . wonderful stuff you two!
The Cold Boy, could I ever relate in terms of not being able to stand it, thank goodness you were able to find another farm. That toilet situation was disgusting as well, glad you moved on, but you had some worth-while experiences there in terms of the work.
Can't wait to hear more, LOVE, M/P
Hotel Santa Canterina this place sounded blissful - u will definitely go back some day - but it's so funny i didn't sense that u were lacking/missing much at the farm but your description of the 'luxuries' here were the best, mary! i've soooo enjoyed reading the entire blog here - i now feel caught up and am so envious of all - except those burned ears jon - brutal!!
Greetings! Jon and Mary,
I am so envious of you two........................the farm in Italy sounds wonderful - the location, the people, the food, etc!!!
I meant to keep in touch with you, but work and life get in my way. Anyway, glad to hear you're doing well, and look forward to reading more about your adventure. I think of you often, even if I don't write...............
Have fun,
Love,
Noreen
It Can't Get Any Better Than This!
As usual, it's cruel and unusual punishment to read your blogs, the FOOD!! I just about cried when I read about that beautiful hotel being full up, but as you say, you just HAVE to go back someday. Carnevale was amazing with your descriptions of the floats--no wonder people come from far and wide!
Thank you so much Mary, I loved how Jon defended your "honor" by protecting you with shots of silly string, VERY funny! LOVE, P/M
Wow Let's see - exploding jam and jam jars, burning & blistering ears, and axes to cut down trees with. Sounds like you're having a blast! Actually, I AM jealous!
mainly a good blog, except ..... Jon - what is this b.s. about waning moons and dryness of trees for pruning!!!??? Sounds pretty sappy to me!
2 times per year??? the moon waxes and wanes more than 12 times in a year!!!
But I am sure it makes a lot of sense to you!!!???
See if you can run a better explanation by me than that one!
The rest of it was good and fun to read! Glad to know that you are learning some useful professions. When you come back to VT you can do wom canning of things here!!! Seriously!
Dad
Me Again!? My mouth just waters every time you guys write! That Lauren sure was lucky that she wasn't badly hurt, incredible.
That story about the moon cycles and cutting down trees was interesting, you learn something new every day.
Jon, I'm glad you figured out what was going on with your ears and got it sorted out.
Enjoy Carnevale and Sicily, can't wait to hear all about it! Love to you 2, M/P
Just got caught up Jon and Mary, I've enjoyed the photos and accounts of working on the farm. You're headed for another farm in Sicily? I'll look forward to your next update. Chris and I were "farming" our front yard yesterday of all the sticks and limbs that came down over the winters snows, only the big snowbanks left.
:)
It must be hard to leave this absolutely beautiful place, although Sicily will definitely be a consolation. Write more, when you have a chance, about all your activities and the gorgeous food, so we can have fun salivating!! LOVE to you both
Re: Pirapora You've given us a good picture of what wwoofing is all about, THANK YOU! What beautiful surroundings, and such friendly people, just like those we met in Rome years ago. Jill appears to have been just as good a tour guide in Rome for you as she was in the Boston MFA for us a few weeks back. Love to you both, G & G (Barb & Hugh)
Amazin' Very cool you two. Mouth watering and envy while reading. Somehow having lunch at Maggiano's isn't quite the authentic Italian experience after reading the blog. But is it time to change the name to wine and pasta?
:)
Again, you had my mouth watering! This place sounds absolutely gorgeous and it's so neat that you're meeting such great people. Thanks so much for this, we'll enjoy anything more you come up with, LOVE to you both, P/M
:) i forgot about your blog and ran into it on your FB page as i was about to give you a shout jon. sounds like you two are up to no good and having a blast. don't show off those italian cooking skills too much or i will expect to be fed when u return :D
are you farming yet????? lol i have the funniest images in my head of you farming over there!
right... off to jamaica tomorrow mon. peace!!!
Food
You guys are a riot! I love your enthusiasm for the food prep and isn't it great that the age-old traditions of local farmers' markets are popular here at home too! Vermont is very much in the forefront of that, happily. Love, P/M
