Paradise Exmouth I say that with tongue in cheek, as when I was their from 1970-1972 (US Navy), it was noting more than a wide spot in the road. No Phone, No TV, No Radio, a very small town square with about 6 shops. The PotShot Inn was the only eating / drinking establishment. They had a drive in movie at the end of town and that was it. Road to Yardee Creek was a two rutt path, and so was the road to PotShot Canyon. Charles Knife Canyon had a decent road. Paved road out of Exmouth stopped at Coral Bay. No Gas between Exmouth and Canarvon, you had to carry a couple of 5 gal jerry cans. You got your water from the Navy Base, because the town water was not drinkable. The town was built by the US Navy to support the Communications Station and they did not go out of their way with luxuries. However, I loved the two years I was there, It was truly the "outback" then, and I rode my dirk bike all over that country. Often thought of going back to visit, but from what I read on the internet, since it became a tourist attraction, it has been ruined.
And in the end So the weary travellers make their final blog. Congratulations- you have circum-navigated the Australian sub continent. You did better than Burke and Wills.
We are so impressed.
Lots of love
Mum and Dad
Now an outsider may think that you get get youre talents for humerous commentary from Dad but we know that the differnece is that we are laughing with you becks!!!!Sorry dad
Hilarious:) Especially Albany - sounds like an excellent place to watch prison break!
Ive heard of (and suffered from) temple-fatigue and waterfall-fatigue but tree-fatigue is a new one; sounds like youve got it bad...
Oh and thanks for the dead cow photography:)
Chickening out Good to have the blog back. Do Chickens go WWoof in Oz? If mum had found the snake in a bathroom she would have gone woof! No I wouldn't I would seriously have popped my clogs! Love the photos.
Congrats! Wow, you've been covering some ground! I remember Mataranka... very cool place, I can understand why you stayed longer (especially with a campsite pub). The croc feeding sounds exciting... them bumping into the boat sounds pretty scary though!
Huge congrats on the jobs.. glad to hear you've finally received a bit of luck on the job hunting / money front. Now get scrubbing!

Exmouth Head up North to the tip. There is a fairly good beach, the Lighthouse, some interesting info on Turtles. And a lot more if you drive around to the ocean side opposite Exmouth.
The sunset up there is pretty good, too.
wowowow! Warner & Howson the intrepid explorers .wow 17km with backpacks. I did 17km without a backpack and found it hard enough very impressive!
Loving your first photo, you make such a lovely threesome! Haven’t watched Neighbours for years but I’d love to meet the doc. I imagine watching him thrashing about on stage to his adoring English backpacker fans was a little surreal. I also commend you for insulting Connor twice. Doesn’t sound like you were particularly star-struck:)
You do realise that now you’ve disclosed that you’ve got a laptop and are willing to dine in Mcdonalds in order to use it we will expecting (demanding) much more frequent updates!
It was great to hear what you’ve been up to. Missing you! xx
You meet some cool dudes Massive achievment. What an ordeal. Surpases anything Burke and Wills could have done. You went to a Karl Kennedy gig!! And Paul Robinson too. Deep respect.
Neighbours Night sounds fantastic! Not one you'll forget in a hurry!! Love the photo of you two and Karl. Sounds like you're having a brilliant time. Lots of love Cats x
Oh yes Looks like you have joined the Free Masons or is it the Free Mooseons in Auz.
Lawn bowls just has to be the coolest activity going. You wouldn't know it until you try it.
So you are joining the long list of explorers acroos the great outback. Burke and Wills, Bishop and Carpenter, Ned and Kelly and now Warner and Howson.
Top Gear meets Vietnam You would never get me (Dad) down those tunnels! I feel funny just looking at them.
TopGear are doing an end of season special riding mopeds the length of Vietnam. Look out for it in Oz. I know Tonny is a fan of the prog.
Love Mum and Dad
oh-wop-wow sounds like you lucked out with my cow, stuuuuuuning sunsets and I'm extremely jealous you went diving in the Similan Islands.... it sounds like amazing!
going local Becks! So you made it through the 'nam, even though you went local and joined the moto-madness...very impressive you crazy girl! Can't believe it was cold, we had precisely the opposite weather and were drenched by sweat not rain....not sure which is worse. Cool pics, especially the tunnels! Can't believe your time in Asia is almost up, I hope you keep the blog up in Oz!! xx
Feel the heat ! Journey sounded exhausting. Dont like the sound of the bugs! Maybe back packing isn't for me after all. But then looking at your amazing photos and your happy faces...
Hello, we are Becky and Mike. In August 08 we are set off from Kendal in the lovely English Lake District to see a bit more of the world. First we went to South East Asia for 4 months (Singapore - Malaysia - Thailand - Laos - Cambodia - Vietnam).
The we went to Australia to work and travel for the year. We began in Brisbane, where we purchased a car which we used to drive down to Melbourne, across to Adelaide, up to Darwin, down to Perth and back accross to Brisbane!
