Early start out for the run I've been looking forward to...US50 After watching Top Gear do this road in three performance street cars I figured why cant I do that? So I am. As you might have seen in the previous post I scored well with the rental car. They gave me a choice of a Ford Escape SUV...BLECH! A green Camaro convertible or the Mustang. Now as one who races a Holden product I was tempted by the Camaro, but when the girl said the Mustang was Blue how could I say no? I have to say we enjoyed US50 the Mustang and I. Parts of the road run on what was originally the old Pony Express route. So it was kind of appropriate I was riding the Blue Filly lol. Stopped in Eureka for ... read more

Today did a drive around Reno looking at the huge casinos and after brekkie did the short hop over the hills to Carson City. The road is amazing, it would make an excellent hillclimb. I have to admit when I pulled up in Virginia City the Mustang's brakes were a tad hot. Virginia City and Silver City are historic mining towns in the hills between Reno and Carson City and I had a wander around but unfortunately I was a bit early and not much was open. Down the hill to Carson, passing the sign to the famous BunnyRanch, and amusingly its new sign, the one directing you to the BunnyRanch Business Park. Hey, might as well use the land for something profitable right? Spent the afternoon stocking up for the next leg and relaxing in ... read more

Good run out of Portland down 26 and then onto 31 for the run through the Fremont Hills. Due to roadworks and traffic delays did the last hundred and fifty miles after sunset. Slightly unnerving seeing a pair of antlers flash past the passenger window! Then had another pair of deer on the road further on but no incidents. Rolled into Litchfield California about 10.30pm. Stopped for petrol and nearly eaten alive by mozzies. Imagined I heard banjos twanging but rolled out again to find the GPS sending down a backroad? Could see US 395 but took some getting to. Got into Reno about 11.45, found a motel, did some bits and pieces and crashed out till morning. ... read more

Saturday caught the flight to Houston connecting to Orlando. Slight delay in Houston, arrived late Saturday night, have to admit the humidity hit like a slap in the face lol. Was collected by my dear friend Gemmie sis for a visit to a secret icon of Orlando. It's a secret! Sunday after a sleep in took my lilsis for lunch and did someexploring Monday did some more exploring and Monday evening had dinner with Ron and Debra. Such wonderful people who will in the future become neighbours of mine in Australia! Tuesday made the short drive down to Melbourne, and had a delicious lunch at Meg O'Malley's Irish Pub before a trip to the beach and my first sight of the Atlantic Ocean. Sadly had to say my goodbyes to my cherished lilsis, and make my ... read more

slight hiatus on the blog sorry, too busy doing to write about it lol. Wednesday after getting back from BC caught up on some shopping, did another movie night, 3D this time, and made arrangements for the next leg of the trip....Florida! Thursday did some more exploring round Portland before another session of thrown weapons practice with the local Scadians. Really taking to the spear throwing, buried a shaft a foot deep in the target.... a most enjoyable evening. Friday explored a Portland icon, Powell's Books. A bookstore covering an entire city block and three stories high! This bear was in book heaven!!! Covered as much as I could and with great self control only bought two books lol. Games night rounded out a excellent week. Saturday.....to the air again! ... read more

Rented a vehicle for the drive up to Richmond to see Master PAN and His girl Heart, my brother and sister for so long online. Got an upgrade on the car to a Ford Expedition....its huge. Good run up to the border, US highways very good, waited at the border about an hour though which was a bummer but apparently its a Canadian Long Weekend which would account for it. Found PAN and Heart easily though both phones lost contact as we crossed the border. Monday we visited the last day of the Rennaisance Fair. Just in time for the Jousting Finals. Marvellous atmosphere and the stalls were a maze of arts and crafts of the medieval period. Good food, good beer, good company, what more could a bear ask for? Sadly our time passed too ... read more

Ok, sorry for the lag, internet connectivity issues. Today went into the Portland Markets, an excellent venue full of stalls for gifts and crafts and food and they even had a band or three and some street entertainers as well. Bought some gifts and stuff and had a lovely lunch before heading back for a night out at the movies, Monsters Vs Aliens with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig. Afterwards a guided tour of the projection rooms in which thirteen auditoriums are under the supervision of one Projectionist. Tomorrow....North to British Columbia! ... read more

today visited the cultural district of Portland and the Portland Art Museum. We found at the moment the Museum is hosting a display of fine automobiles and of course for this bear that was like a jar of pure honey! Talbot Lago, Hispano Suiza, Bentley, Bugatti, Tucker, Porsche, Jaguar, to name but a few. And as Disi and I went exploring we found room after room of beautiful art and some that well wasnt so beautiful lol In the evening we participated in games night with a group of friend's. Hilarious fun, especialy the drinking games! Many have asked me, both at home and abroad why I'm not seeking out the standard touristy destinations and sights. I am to a certain degree but I find more enjoyment in visiting the homes and backyards and hanging out ... read more

today we went to a free concert in the square in Portland city centre, where the Matthew Lindley Connection played for a lunchtime crowd. Afterwards spoke to the bass player, (always the coolest guys in any band,so laid back), who was quite pleased when I bought a CD and told him their music would make it back to Australia! Afterwards Debra took me shopping, and finding a pair of 501's to fit this old bear is actually harder than it seems but I did get to do Macy's, Carhartt, and compare the different Cokes and Pepsi's lol. Got some excellent boots and some nice shirts and some souvenirs as well. In the afternoon, thrown weapons practice! yep throwing sharp pointy things at targets with the local chapter of the SCA. A wonderful welcoming bunch of people ... read more
