Wednesday May 8, 2013 I made it. After two more short flights, we touched down in Mt. Hagen, PNG and were picked up at the airport by 4 of the missionaries from Kudjip station. The best part of the whole day was having Kumi, a native guy with whom I worked construction last year, call me out by name and give me a hug after seeing me come out of the airport. The 45 minute drive from the airport to the mission station was beautiful. It hasn't rained in the past 6 days and so many villagers were burning the grass off of their fields to prepare them for planting. We past trucks carrying loads of coffee cherries and there were natives selling fruits and vegetables along the entire stretch of the road. I rode in ... read more

It's a beautiful morning in Brisbane Australia as I watch the sunrise from BNE International Airport. The flight from Chicago to Dallas went smoothly. The lady sitting next to me and the couple behind only spoke Spanish so I was able to translate overhead messages and serve as an interpreter with flight attendants. That was pretty neat. This has come so much sooner than I anticipated – school finished less than a week ago and I took my MCAT last Saturday. It’s just been one thing after another. Thanksfully, I will have plenty of time to catch up on sleep on my over 24 hours of air travel. For my followers, here’s a little more info about where I am going. · Papua New Guinea is not in Africa and many people seem to think it is. · PNG is located above Australia, a few degrees south of the equator. PNG is located on the eastern half of the island of New Guinea (the western half is part of Indonesia, and New Guinea is the ... read more

Only about 4 weeks until I leave for PNG! I'll be flying out from Chicago on Monday, May 6. I have been overwhelmingly blessed and humbled by the outpouring of support that I have received from friends and family. Contributions continue to come in, even after I have surpassed my goal of fundraising the airfare! Almost all of my living and travel expenses and will be covered too! To those of you who have supported me, again I say "Thank you!" This is the blog that I will use while I am overseas. I cannot say how often I will be able to update (internet in the third world is a little less reliable than ours). Hopefully I will be able to keep you all updated and maybe I'll even be able to share some photos. ... read more
