After staying up till 2am last night, skyping with mom and preparing for the next day, it was rough waking up this morning at 8. So I didn't, I woke up at 9! When I woke up, there was about two inches on snow! It was all white and powdery, and felt like sand to walk on. Since the Paris Museum Pass I activated yesterday was only good for two days, I was determined to make the most of it. So here we go: NOTRE DAME: I met a girl named Monica at the hostel this morning and we discovered that we were both headed to the cathedrale, so we took the bus together. Near the bus stop, we think we saw some guy almost get pickpocketed, but it was difficult to tell what was going ... read more

First French dinner!
Louvre

So to finish up a little for yesterday, after my entry I went to a cafe for dinner. I was sitting alone next to another woman who was sitting alone. We got to talking and she eventually offered to meet me today to go to the Luxembourg Museum. So then I got back to my room and I met my roommates: one Brazilian guy and two Australian guys. They were really polite, and I didn't see them much. So, today started with a metro ride to the Louvre. On the train, a kibitzer clarinetist was playing for tips. It was the soundtrack of my day! Wow Paris is great! The Louvre itself was overwhelming. What made it a little more testing was that I developed a somach ache while I was there. I drank lots of ... read more

What a day! I arrived in France around 8:30am this morning, and I was surprised that the sun was just coming up. It was very foggy and chilly outside (about 25 degress F)! My arrival at the airport was interesting; Charles de Gaulle is not a looker, it's more like a bizarre industrial compound. It took me a while to figure out what to do after I went through Immigration. I saw a tourist quiosk and bought my Paris Museum Pass--I was so glad I could buy it then! Successful French speaking encounter #1! Next, I tried to buy a bus ticket with my credit card but it would only take coins. So to get these, I bought a drink (successful French speaking encounter #2!). Most people take the RER into Paris, but I opted to ... read more

This is my first blog entry! Right now I am trying to finish preparing everything for my flight to Paris tomorrow. It seems like there is so much work to do just to get there; from applying to study abroad, to buying health insurance, applying for scholarships, booking the flight, getting my French visa, packing, and planning, planning, planning!!! It's enough to give someone a headache. But here I am, at the culmination of so much work. I can't believe it's finally here. As I look forward to my journey, I know that I cannot prepare for everything, in fact, as we may see, there will be lots of unexpected obstacles and challenges that appear. However, I am confident that I will be able to face these challenges head on. So I guess that means I'm ... read more
