Beautiful old style buildings in Gdansk

Beautiful architecture
Must bring joy to the heart to see Poland's treasures smiling at you. Millie's a bit of a stunner too!

Poland
Our niece married a gentleman from Poland and we've heard wonderful things. Your blogs continue to increase our interest.

Lakes and Trains
Wow, the lakes district looks amazing, and it comes with a train museum! So great you are getting a holiday within a holiday and having the entire family along with you. When we eventually get back to Poland might need to hire your Mum as a guide.

Lakes and Trains
Yes we have some really nice lakes in Poland and even during the high season it's very peaceful around. I'm sure my Mum would gladly show you around some nice places :)

Lovely deserts in Specjal Pub as well!

What a great trip
Loved hearing about the family and how great it was to explore the home land. Thanks for taking us along.

Home is where the the heart is...
I loved this blog Anna, especially as I'm very interested in the way different people define 'home'. Your Mum's cakes look fabulous and I could certainly relate to all the 'concerns' you had ;)

Home is where the heart is...
Happy to hear you liked my blog and yes, I'm totally spoiled by my mum's cakes... and cooking in general! :)

Your old home looks pretty good
When we passed through Poland we sort of adopted the "all or nothing" policy. Felt Poland deserved at least a good 4 weeks of roaming, and we didn't have it so unfortunately just skipped through Warsaw. So glad we did in ways because we may have missed your home town and now when we go back it will be high on our list. As for the rules on smoking in Europe it does come as a huge shock especially when someone drags out a cigar over dinner.

Nice to hear my town landed on your list. It most certainly is one of the less traveled destinations but I think it's worth a visit, especially in the summer as there are lots of local events. Some things, like sailing over the grass, are seasonal only. Definitely Europe has a lot of catching up to do when it comes to banning smoking in public places. One day hopefully.

I love Poland
I love Poland. It is a wonderful country, very much underrated as a travel destination. I have never been to Elblag but I can see from your pics that I would love to go there. The closest to Elblag I have been is probably around 30 km, in Malbork. Nice to read about Poland. It makes me want to go there again /Ake

I love Poland
Happy to hear you liked my home country so much. I do think it's underrated as well and most of the time people pass by Warsaw and Cracow only... Great cities for sure, but there is so much more to see here! Yes, Malbork is only 30km away from Elblag, nice to know you dropped by my neighbourhood. :)

Enjoying one of many local events in the Old Town of Elblag

Back at home again
This is one exciting blog Anna. 12 years away and then you return to where you were born, raised and from where you left the family nest to find your own way...returning to your parents with hubbie and daughter to meet them...to rediscover your roots. Looking forward to you discovering Polish Blues...and photos of the Castle of the teutonic knights to paste in our Palaces & Castles photography thread please!

Back at home again
Thanks Dave. Yes, it feels like I am rediscovering this place all over again... We haven't been to Malbork this time around as I took Grant there when he first visited Poland in 2013, but I definitely have some pictures from that trip somewhere... coming up soon!

I remember the bakeries
I can totally understand why you enjoyed the bakeries. It was many years ago since I last visted Copenhagen but I still remember the fresh bread in the morning. /Ake

Yes, they were a real delight! Thanks for reading :)

That heat!
You took me right back to the heat and humidity of Singapore while reading this blog. All that talk of pork noodles has made me really hungry...although like you, I'm not sure about the yolk in that lotus paste pastry! Sounds like Millie did really well for her first time in Asia :)

That heat!
It sure can be very sticky in Singapore! And I wouldn't mind having a portion of these tasty pork noodles now either ;) definitely no more yolks in my pastries ever again though! Hoping Millie will do well in 'real' Asia also, I guess we'll have to see :)

Millie making friends wherever possible :)

A natural-born traveler!
Thrilled to read that traveling with Millie is so easy except for pram and other accoutrements. I'd always heard that babies are a very popular attraction in Asia, as they certainly are here in South America. Singapore sounds delicious, great sites and food, but I'd have to go there in the dead of their winter. Poland will certainly be a cool relief after this.

A natural-born traveler!
Not sure if there's anything resembling winter in Singapore, but it definitely would be better to go there when it's at least slightly cooler. Yes Millie behaved like a real trooper during our stay there, coping much better with the heat than I did for sure! And yes she is a people's magnet and I just couldn't be any prouder. :)

I feel your pain
You sure brought back some memories of our last big trip when we did the same thing of clearing out of our house and renting it out. 6 months of my life I will never forget and the cyclone last two weeks were a nightmare, couldn't even imagine doing it with a small child at my ankles. This trip we just left house and contents with friends, missing the rent but was slightly easier exiting. Happy long travels.

I feel your pain
It definitely wasn't easy and we were constantly changing our minds whether to rent the place out or not... It feels like long time ago now... Happy we rented out the place in the end as we are not sure if we'll be coming back there at all... We'll see where this trip will take us. Happy travels to you too!
