The Spring semester of my Junior year in college is about to dawn. I have been overwhelmed by the plans that God has for my life and am truly excited to see where He will lead me next. 330 million Gods and countless religions... India. I feel like the county is opening up her arms to greet me!
What really makes me tingle is the thought of all the planing God had to do to get me to India. I mean, as I look back on my life there were things that I unknowingly did that brought me closer to India. God has been at this for years and I feel like He has brought me to the first of many climax's. You may ask "a climax of what?" Faith, adventure, wonder and love for God... these all are correct! All this planning just to get me there. I wonder what He has planned for me to do? Oh! the suspense is wonderful because it leaves me to reflect on the majesty and omnipotence of God.
Well there's to the first of hopefully many blogs, off to read more of my Culture Shock in India book.

Hey! I think I am finally mastering the auto rickshaw in India. Well… the auto drivers in Bangalore are way nicer to foreigners than the ones on Delhi so I guess that’s not saying to much. I mean, I still get the constant calls for 100 rupees for a ride to the other end of the street. But now I know that a ride like that would only cost either 20 or 40 rupees. I say both 20 and 40 rupees because some of the auto meters are totally rigged! You get in and hold your breath in hopes of slowing the meter down. These meters go up ½ a rupee every 5 second whereas the normal auto’s meter will go up every 10 -12 seconds. Oh it’s so annoying! Every time I get into an ... read more

The smells are what marks the greatest contrast between America and India. As I walked along the dirt and sand stone roads this afternoon and evening each step brings a new smell with it... literally each step. For example just walking from one street corner to another I smelled burning wood, gasoline, peanuts, something really spicy, rotting trash, and then a acrid smell that I held my breath for. I don't really like all the smells, but I think that is because it is just different than how it is at home. The beggars are so numerous, but they will not hound you. It’s the sellers that you have to dodge and run from. Kinda makes me not want to buy anything from them. While out roaming the streets with Sarah we went into a historical ... read more

Americans are rich and spoiled. Spoiled not in the fact that we are preppy rich white people, but in the fact that many of us have so much and have never witnessed firsthand the poverty that most of the world lives in. We are spoiled because many Americans have never seen real poverty and therefore do not have to live with the guilt of wealth. I am a spoiled white American. I am sitting in a bed in Delhi India shrouded by a mosquito net. The dogs down below roam the streets around the apartment, barking and fighting; starkly contrasting the peace of the bedroom I will be spending my night in. The whistle of the night guard sounds regularly occasionally bursting into a shrill caustic series of sharp notes. Honking penetrates the remainder of the ... read more
