I'm sure that no one will have any objections, but this blog will be short and direct, because we are sooo tired. We spent our last evening in Cambodia watching the sunset over one of the temples with hundreds of other tourists. We rode elephants up to the top of the temple, which was on a big hill and perched ourselves on the edge of a thousand year old structure to see our last sunset in Cambodia. It was beautiful! The next morning we took a scary propeller plane with 18 rows from Cambodia to Krabi. Finally...we made it to the beach. Yesterday we took an island tour that went to 4 islands in the Andaman Sea. It is insane how crystal clear the water is and how white the sand is. The water is really ... read more

Were are in Siem Reap! Flying into Cambodia felt like you were flying into a remote area in the middle of the jungle - we felt so adventurous! We had heard that most people take US dollars in Cambodia, but we had no idea that Cambodian money was barely even used. We were shocked to find out that the Cambodian government only accepted payment for our travel visas in dollars or Thai baht. We had to go to the ATM in the airport to pay and it turns out every ATM in Cambodia gives out US dollars....I guess that demonstrates the poor econimic condition of the country. Siem Reap, Cambodia has been cool (it is Allison's favorite place so far). We start every morning by waking up and covering ourselves in bug repellant and sunblock. Then, ... read more

We just arrived back from our trek and it was crazy! We went into the mountains to stay with a hill tribe, trekked through the jungle, rode elephant back up the mountain, and then bamboo rafted back down. The trek began by driving into the mountains around Chiang Mai. We started trekking from a villiage that had a baby monkey and Allison got to hold him. He was so cute and he even screamed when he got scared! We started walking through the jungle and with in five minutes we almost walked into a spider that was almost the size of my hand. There is a picture of it but there is nothing else in the picture to show its relative size. We hiked for an hour and stopped at a waterfall that we all climbed ... read more

Chiang Mai is a mountanous area in the northern part of Thailand. It is known for its hill tribes and outdoor activities such as trekking, mountain biking, and white water rafting. The temperature is about 70 degrees during the day, which is much nicer than hot and humid Bangkok. We took a 1 hour flight from Bankok's awesome airport and landed in Chiang Mai. Our hostel is in the "old city" that is surrounded by an ancient city wall. The hostel owner is an Ausie woman that gave us directions to a night market that only happens twice each year. The city's artists work all week long and bring their work out at night for New Years to sell to locals and tourists. This was by far the largest market I have ever seen. The merchants ... read more

This morning was our last morning in Bangkok, so we decided to charter a longtail boat to go into the canals. After using body language to negotiating our fare with the driver who spoke no English, we hopped in the boat to see where he would take us. We pulled off of the main river in Bangkok and into a little side canal lined with houses and shacks that had been there for decades. It was so amazing to watch people bathe in the river (mostly clothed thankfully) and buy their breakfast from a boat that drove through the canals to sell groceries. We bought a little buddha statue from a floating vendor lady....we didn't have time to make it to the floating market before our flight :( . Apart from being repeatedly splashed in the ... read more

Well, this is what you (or we) look like after 29 consecutive hours of travel. We took our 747 double decker plane to Taipei, Taiwan and then crossed into Thailand. Amazingly, we weren't that tired after all that air time considering we moved a day ahead of California time. We have walked through markets that smell of every odd thing smellable, and some we have never smelt before. We found good deals on live, shreaking eels and Mongolian ribbeting toads at the market (see pictures). We visited the nicest mall I have ever seen, located in the shabbiest neighborhood I have ever seen. We took our first open tuk tuk taxi and Allison almost got out when the driver tried to scam us by dropping us off at his friend's store rather than our destination. We're ... read more
