Impressive I'm very impressed with the amount of places you were able to fit into your journey around Sweden! I love the video running through the meadow - freedom! ? And how great it is to be able to stumble upon unexpected places and sights on a trip - I like the idea of staying in a "hippie community" ?
It was a great trip We had an awesome vacation last summer. In July we are heading up north in Sweden again. We then plan to drive past the area we visited now and go further north. I think that will be another awesome vacation. /Ake
Brilliant! Another enjoyable read, thank you Åke and Emma for enabling me to get a deep insight into travelling in Sweden. I seem to remember you enjoy street art very much, so Ljusdsal must have been a very interesting visit for you. "Draisine" - I learnt a new word today, thank you, and it looks great fun ?
Draisine and street art Riding the draisine was super-fun. Hopefully we'll be able to try it again sometime. You are right that we enjoy street art. I actually went on a guided street art tour in London a few years ago. That was really good. /Ake
Wow! Wow! Really spectacular scenery, and fascinating information and history. I really enjoyed reading this blog, Åke ? Such beauty, but also such interesting contradictions as you say. The story behind Döda Fallet, and a Thai pavilion in the middle of rural Sweden - I did not expect that! Also interesting to see that the Loch Ness Monster may have a Swedish cousin. And I'm glad Emma was ok after the encounter with a reindeer - what a photo though!
We like places with stories We find that places tend to be more interesting if there is also a story that can be told. Good to here that you think so to and that it is worth for us to write these stories. /Ake
Down Under Australia is vast. Thanks for taking us on the trip from 95. We loved the isolation and rawness of this area. I'm sorry we missed McKinely as we could have searched for Mick. LOL.
Walkabout Creek Hotel - silly but fun It felt a bit silly to spend half a day only to see Walkabout Creek Hotel. But I actually like doing silly things like that. /Ake
Australia 1995 You saw a lot Ake and covered a lot of miles and probably gave you a taste of how vast and diversified the World's smallest continent actually is. Due to Covid, us Aussies are rediscovering those hidden gems in abundance. We have just completed a 2,200 km roadtrip which only covered a small strip of New South Wales. Hope your meanderings in Oz gave you a sense of why we love our sunburnt country so much.
I hope you write about your NSW trip I totally get why you Aussies love Australia so much. I do too and I so want to go back. Writing brought back many memories and I also know of many interesting places I want to visit that weren't included in the 1995 trip I made. I hope you write about your trip in NSW because I really look forward to reading about it. /Ake
Memories Your blog brought back some great memories of our visit to this part of Australia in 2012. Visiting Uluru and spending some time in the red desert was amazing. But I also liked Cairns, though we also took day trips from there -- training to Kuranda, and a day out to Green Island. Other than the airport, we didn't see anything in Alice Springs. Enjoyed reading your post!!
Writing these make me want to go back Writing these brought back quite a few memories to me as well. Now I really want to go back to Australia again. /Ake
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
