Hey everyone I am going to go ahead and throw in a couple photos this time. Hope you all enjoy. So not really a lot to say. More museums, more festivals, more crazy Russian people! So small feature of this city. Everyone smokes, well basically everyone, and they don't think it's worth investing in ash trays. At the same time they really don't like to litter. The result? Many many many trashcan fires. I basically see one every day, maybe more.... read more

So it’s been a while hasn’t it? Okay where to start? I guess I should do kind of a day in the life. So I wake up at 7:30ish, which is something awful but oh well. After that I take either the bus or the metro. So some fun stuff has happened on both in the morning. On the metro I was going just a few stops and this lady came onto the train selling passports and other documents. It was kind of tempting but also probably a sting so I just did nothing. Someone did buy a passport though so that’s something. The buses and the metros are both super clean, and something like 40 cents a ride. Hey hey hey, so it has probably been too long since my last update so there is plenty to cover. Okay first and foremost, last Sunday I went to the Hermitage museum on a tour with my group. It might of actually bee the coolest and oldest building I have ever been inside. Well actually it is made up of several buildings, one of which is the winter palace the former home of the Czar and his family. Which means I got to see the throne room which was insane. Basically everything was leafed with gold. Eventually we got to the art gallery and while I am definitely not a connoisseur I was still really something to behold. The museum has the largest collect of Rembrandt works in the world and many many works by other ... read more

Okay with a few days under my belt there is a little more to tell than last time. The only question is where to start. I guess it would work to kind of go through the progression of average day so far. Well I have been waking up around 6 or seven if I can make it that far, the time difference is still kind of a problem but less and less every day. Then I kill a few hours until nine which is when I take the bus to Smolney which is a building that was commissioned by the daughter of Peter the Great to be a convent but is now a branch of the university. The building is great, nothing much to say about the inside but the outside is spectacular. Speaking of spectacular ... read more

Hey everyone, its been an odd couple of days to say the least! I just got to my host's home and am getting settled. I spent the first two days here at a really nice hotel getting used to the climate and figuring out the do's and don'ts. Not too much to share at this point but we went on a bus tour of the city and I have to say that as you get closer and closer to the city center everything becomes really extraordinary. Here's hoping everything stays great for the next four months.... read more
