Christchurch It was so sad to read about the devastation in Christchurch. Although we read about the earthquake I didn't really understand the extent of it until your posting. Christchurch was where I wanted to move to after our trip in 2001 but those damn kids have kept us stateside.
thank god I hope you're saga will continue for some time longer-- finished Netflix's House of Cards this a.m. (just wait, if you don't know what I'm talking about -- it just came out), Downton Abbey's heading for the finish line, so must rely on you to keep my adventure fantasy alive...winter in chicago just s u c k s!!
Never thought I wanted to go to Australia... That is I had not wanted to go to Australia until reading your blog and seeing the pictures. Please send us you itinerary when you get home. And that's interesting about the UA visa card. Both Jack and I have one and have never tried their travel service. Think we'll have to experiment.
Travel safe and see you sometime.
Sarah
continuing enjoyment Your tales only get better if that's possible. You had me all the way through the driving nightmare: it might just supplant massachusetts for automotive craziness!
lol I think this was the funniest entry you have written yet. The entente with Steve for driving was hysterical, maybe more so because of our Newfi travels. Melbourne sounds delightful and has me salivating to visit. Have fun on your next leg.
I love, love love your blogs Hi Anne Marie and Steve,
Thanks for sharing your wonderful trip. What a great writer you are, Anne Marie. I want to take the exact same trip some day.
Happy travels!
Anne
love opening a new chapter in saga I love this story you're telling! The descriptions & photos of paradise (warts & all) offer such a totally enjoyable counterpoint to the midwest winter blahs....It's a great boost for my mood. Thank you!
so many memories for your future - and our memories of the past It is exactly 12 years since Margot and I shared some of these Aussie memories - sunrise at Uluru, GBR, Rain Forest, etc. Your blog makes it seem like yesterday for us but it will forever be a record for you in the future. And you're only just beginning. Thanks for the reminders and the fresh experiences; continue to enjoy. With our love, John and Margot
rainforest Great stories about your trip. I search everyday and love finding them in my inbox. Looking forward to the next installment. Anne Marie, you have a follow on career as a travel writer.
Steve looked great in his wet suit. Glad to hear you had some nice weather for your visit to the GBR after surviving the typhoon. Isn't all that sea life beautiful!
Port Douglas Thankyou for your wonderful comments and we found reading your blog very interesting and so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and also Port Douglas. (Bob said Jane the "jam" lady is only 75, just incase she reads this, I guess numbers matter at that age, ha ha.!!). Have a wonderful trip. x
This is Australian for adventure! What a fabulous trip. From lodgings, to incredible blue waters, to fascinating travel partners. BTW -- is see you got Matthew McCoughany to pose with you in your beach photos -- I'd know those six-pack abs anywhere!
corkscrews You're missing cold NE temperatures 18F with windchills in the negative teens. Of course the SLU Alumni ski day at the local hill was scheduled. I went out for 2 runs after the cocoa break & before the scheduled lunch, leaving Kate inside. Little did I know she called on her SLU expertise to furnish another skier with her glove-box-stored corkscrew....apparently you, Glennee and she think alike. Huzzah! for the well-prepared wine people.

There "in Spirit" with You! I am LOVING this vicarious journey with you! Thanks for the personal "shout out" from somewhere high above the Pacific; it's appreciated!
Singapore Love the picture of the two of you devouring the chili crabs. It reminds me of the lobster feast we had on the dock in Freeport. I'm glad Tracy and Brian were able to show you the expat's life, a.k.a. "lifestyle of the rich and famous". I compare Singapore to N.Y.C. except it's cleaner and safer and the taxi cab drivers are pleasant.
Glad to hear that Singapore Airlines is working hard at maintaining its stellar reputation. All those little extras mean a lot on those long-haul flights. It certainly puts our domestic airlines to shame.
I hope you managed to pack some rain gear in those overstuffed suitcases!!
