Happiness is a smaller suitcase By the time you get to Day 20, you, your back, your arms and your legs will be very happy that you are schlepping a smaller suitcase (and carry-on bag). Take this from one who lugged a 50 lb. duffel and a 22" roller bag on and off trains in Europe 2 years ago. Enjoy your limited choice of clothes and focus on all the wonderful sights you are going to see.
congratulations on traveling the Rick Steves way! The negotiations were worth it. Trust me, you will return very sick of those 22 inches of clothes, but you will never travel "heavy" again. I am excited for you. And congrats on the great photo you've attached to the site...is this the famed pink shirt that is in that suitcase?
You've put us there What a terrific account of an amazing day. I was absolutely entranced as I read your words. Lauren has accomplished something wonderful and you and Steve have been full partners in getting her there. What fabulous parents, what an amazing family. Kudos to you all.
Thanks That's quite a compliment coming you, the fabulous writer. When we're on the road I really enjoy writing for the sheer pleasure of it - so different from all those years of business writing.
Lust for life???? What a wonderful way to document your journey! Just love the way you write. You make the open road sound absolutely delightful and it makes me miss you two. Keep those blogs a-comin'!
So what about the golf?? Only have time to quickly scan your opus, but I saw no mention of the PGA's upcoming visit at Greenbrier -- perhaps we got too enthralled with food news??
Moving Anne Marie, a tremendous post. Very moving, very meaningful, extremely well-written, and, in a sad way - beautiful. Thanks for helping us to think about our nation carefully and lovingly. Liz
Thanks for posting this Another great post Anne Marie. I was only about 11 when I visited Gettysburg for the first and last time. That was far too young to appreciate its history and meaning.
Bon Voyage! Happy Travels. I can't believe we let the whole 8 months go by without getting together. Not next year!! Sounds like a great adventure you've planned. Love to Marge and Louis. And keep those blogs coming!
Love, Carole and Larry
Ride-on, Write-on I'm sure we will all be entranced, once again, by your written reflections of your trip. I know I will and appreciate being on your list for the travel blog. Liz
I'm jelous What a wonderful diary. You now are able to revisit the favorite spots as you wish. Just put on your glasses and turn on the computer and relive the wonderful Vacation of 2009. Iam envious : Big Daddy

Where the streets are paved I remember seeing a billboard in Winnemucca years ago - on our RV trip - that said "Winnemucca - Where the streets are paved."
great entry HI,
Been really busy - so this is the first blog entry I've read. Looking forward to catching up on the rest of the entries. Love your descriptions and humor!
Welcome back to CA!
Love, Carole
Montana's two seasons Clearly, you two have discovered what Montana has in common with Wyoming and the Dakotas. These states have two seasons: winter and the Fourth of July.
I like the juvenile bear you photo'd best -- he appears to be looking left, which I suspect makes him pretty lonely in Montana. But I love the photo of you and Steve at Grinnell -- best photo you've posted on the blog. It's a keeper.
Are you still on track for getting home Wednesday late in the day, or what? Are the housesitters/tenants out yet, or will you all be fighting over the bedroom Wednesday night? Can't wait to know that Elvis is back in the building!
Missed Cary and Eva...but thought about doing the stunts myself the next time! North by Northwest will definitely be going on our Netflix list - come up for the weekend and see it with us!
We have loved your blogs-- feel as if we are getting a history lesson. I have to repeat what I have always said, Anne Marie, there is a book in you waiting to be written.
