Hi Blog Followers,
So today we thought it would be good to get up at 5am to get pictures of the sunrise over Angkor Wat. It was another 10km ride there in the dark which was a bit harrowing as there are not many street lights in Siem Reap. We had hired the bikes the day before as we realised no shop in there right mind would be open that time. We got to the entrance about 6.10am, perfect timing to sun come up over the lake with the temple behind it creating a great reflection. There were also LOADS of people there, most had come by tour coaches and tuk tucks, but we managed to get some good pictures without too many heads in it. At about 7am we went inside the temple. It's definitely the most preserved temple out of all of them but this has been partly due to it being in constant use since it was built.
We cycled home after we had had a look, stopping for breakfast in the usual place on the way back. We then handed the bikes back as we don't fancy cycling around the main
area of Siem Reap as the traffic is crazy. So we ended up getting back to our hostel about 9am!! We went back to bed!! (lazy its i know)
Neil has full blown man flu now so he is feeling pretty rubbish, so after the exertion from this mornings temple viewing we haven't got much else planned today, apart from sunbathing, reading, and drinking. We bought some jugs of draft Angkor beer later in the afternoon, they went down well, and then happy hour came 5-6pm, but this was the ultimate happy hour......free beer for the hour or until the barrel runs out. We definitely got our moneys worth... well i say money but it's free haha.
by about 6pm, some how Neil, like a switch, went from comprehendible to blurred speech. He made me walk by myself to get dinner somewhere 😞 then when i came back within 40 minutes he was a bit of a mess!! Some people just can't handle their drink! (well Neil can not say no to free beer) Our coach pick up came for us at 8pm, for our 12 hour journey to Sihanoukville. It was a sleeper
bus so was going to be ok, but unfortunately because Neil was so drunk it was not very pleasant for me to say the least!!! Not only was he drunk but he had also taken diazepam to help with sleeping on the bus, however mixed with the booze was not a good outcome. (lesson learnt), so he was drunk and fairly paralytic. There were also no toilets on the bus so for the first part of the night Neil couldn't move to get off for a pee, so Neil used a plastic bottle!! (boys have it so lucky) Not happy!!!
Anyway we got a few hours sleep before arriving
