silk
this was a silk store in mbk mall True to the words of Snoop :-P that sums up our first night in Thailand. After a looong flight in the company of a few tragic Americans and recycled air, we arrived at the Holiday Inn in Bangkok. (oh! The irony….wait! does that make me a qualified hipster?) We originally planned to stay there for 2 nights but after 3 hours sleep and fueled by the excitement of the big wide world outside our marble walls we decided to make our way down to Khoa San Road (to those of you who don’t know, Khoa San Road is kind of the main backpackers area in Bangkok, very flashy with tons of shopping and the smell of raw chicken flesh heavy in the air) the first room we took was a bit of a shit hole, but it had air conditioning! In the end this small luxury didn’t make a difference as time was not spent in our rooms but rather, shopping like a couple of materialistic mad woman for the next few days. We ended up at this market called Chatuchuk (or something to that extent) which is arguably the biggest one of its kind in the world. This place

I forget the name of these but there are vendors selling them everywhere is what dreams are made of. Its very hot and crowded but completely worth checking out. You can find everything here, from Halloween masks and lizards, to orange trees and silk. We stopped and got foot massage (ooh it’s a hard life!) halfway through and then ordered $1 Heineken that I was able to drink while we shopped! Drunken shopping, a clever sales tactic! That night we went to Patapong (I think that’s how it’s spelled) which is the red light district where the infamous ping pong shows take place. Despite our best efforts we didn’t end up finding one but our initial had been to hunt down a really good restaurant. We are walking by all these stalls selling fake Gucci and Zippos when this man comes up to us. You hungry? He asks. Looking for a place to eat? hmm...... well as a matter of fact....yes! You come with me , he says , I show you my friends restaurant , veeeeeeery good seafood!Overeager look in his eyes. What? Seafood? Well in that case lead the way! We follow him a few blocks and end up in front of the hospital...... this way! He says. We follow him
:D
thai ronald through the ER where they are wheeling injured people around, through corridor after corridor. Is he going to take us to the hospital cafeteria, we wonder to ourselves? We finally reach the back door and look out. Restaurant this way he proudly declares. Wtf? You mean to tell me we have to walk through a deserted dark back alley for.......SEAFOOD!!! Now I am not one to easily turn down seafood but this situation was just a little too sketchy. He ended up looking crushed when we turned him down but really? Had anything happened we would have fully deserved it. I mean, imagine trying to explain that one to the folks back home. "I know he was a stranger but he said they had great seafood....." Anyways, the option we ended up with was some delicious Mexican food (I know, shame on me, I should be eating Thai) which sadly, gave mom the 24 hour travelers’ flu. We've seen all we desire to see of Bangkok and in a few hours we are leaving for the islands.....we are not really sure which one yet, but we still have a good hour to figure that out! :D........ Hope everyone is enjoying their summer back home!!
