I know I'm a little behind schedule with getting the photos on the blog but it's so bloody time-consuming! Any way, here's the latest batch for you from Xi'an featuring the Terracotta Army and our epic tandem ride on the city walls.

First Glimpse
It's the Terracotta Army alright!

Pit 1
The size of Pit 1 took everyone by surprise. Only a small fraction of it was excavated too so there's probably loads more soldiers to be unearthed...

Massive Uniform Fetish
Jude wonders how good these soldiers must have looked in their uniforms in the flesh ;-)

Jigsaw Horse
God knows how long it took them to put the poor bugger on the right back together!

Up Close and Personal
It's hard to believe that every single warrior is different. At first we thought the bodies might be the same but with different heads but the height, physique and clothing also seemed to vary greatly. unbelievable!

The Three Warriors
Ok, we're just not terracotta enough to fit in.

The Excavator
Jish wants to try his hand at digging up a few warriors but they just don't make archaeology tools for small bears...

Drunken Warriors
Ok so they're not exactly drunk but this is how many of the soldiers get found, all broken up and fallen over. Poor little mites!

Horsing Around
This bloke and his horse is in Pit 2 in one of the glass cabinets.

Broken Bits
Glynn demonstrates how to pick up your very own terracotta warrior and his horse.

Bronze Chariot
This bronze chariot is in the museum bit and is actually half real size. It's also incredibly detailed and makes the dull museum worth the trip.

turtle Power
Jish hitches a ride with a stone turtle. we didn't have the heart to tell him this turtle moves even more slowly than real ones!

Go China!
Jish gets all patriotic.

Xi'an City Walls
Here's Glynn outside the massive Xi'an city wall.

Fountain of Youth
Glynn gets refreshed by the huge fountain in front of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda.

... and not a single big goose in sight!

Here's Jude looking windswept and intersting under the quite dull-looking pagoda.

Glynn tries to escpae the Big Goose Pagoda after discovering it's really not all that interesting after all!

This is the view from one side of the pagoda. that big space btween the little trees is where the fountain comes to life.
