Bookshop
Cute bookshop. A day for complete relaxation.
Check out from our guesthouse was at 11am, so we got out things packed, went to an ATM, and hung out all day.
Our first stop was a cute bookstore on the same path as Mut Mee, our guesthouse. We were so close to buying more books, as it is an addiction you know, but with limited travel space, and with the prices being somewhat high, we opted to just look around.
We walked around the town some more, but it was getting hot, so we only did so in 20 minute intervals before taking a break. One of our breaks was at a Vietnamese restaurant where the big thing going for them was spring rolls. We got an which I happily ate.
Our real lunch came from a local place that had a sign on the window advertising "VEGETARIAN FOODS". Naturally, we went there, and Staci was able to get a tasty veggie curry. I opted for Thai style cashew chicken, otherwise known as amazingness in my mouth.
Knowing we'd have a long train trip, we stocked up on some snacks, and headed back to the guesthouse, which luckily provided
Coffee
While taking a frequent break from the heat, iced coffee helped. a resort type setting for us to relax for several hours before needing to get to the train station.
The two of us found empty hammocks to lay in, and we napped and read until getting out stuff out of the storage room.
Conveniently next to our guesthouse were several tuk tuk drivers waiting for business. We loaded our stuff in and were taken to the train station 10 min. away.
Oops! when we arrived at the station, we noticed I had left my coat behind in the storage room at the guesthouse. It would have cost more money with a tuk tuk to go back and forth and we wanted to board the train, so I mentally said goodbye to my coat, hoping it wouldn't be cold in the next cities.
The train was nice, as we purchased a first class soft sleeper cabin. We had our own little room with bunk-bed style seat/beds. To us, it was worth paying a bit more (but still very cheap) to travel in comfort. We've already experienced the worst of the worst.
Soon into our ride, the train workers came by taking food and drink orders. A
Relax
Relax on a hammock, check. bit hungry, I decided to order a dinner, but Staci opted out. We ordered two beers as well. Then the train worker with a huge smile on his face said, "three beers?". I said, oh no..two is fine. He replied, "haha, no, one for me?!". I laughed, assuming he was joking, and slapped his lag and said, "yeah, one for you, hahah". Turns out, he wasn't joking and the bill came and indeed, I had bought him an expensive train beer. I wasn't too upset, as it was quite funny. I bet he did this to all the foreigners on the train, not drinking any of the beers, just getting a nice tip out of us instead.
The rest of the night was pretty low-key in our train corridors. We had bought a movie to watch on my computer, and liked it a lot. The movie is called The Answer Man, and stars Jeff Daniels. It deals with religion, philosophy, parenting, relationships with parents, books, and love. Check it out!
