Well, first i must tell you all about this beauty of a motorbike that we have hired. Its a Royal Enfield Bullet 350. They were originally built in england during the 1950s but they still make them out here to the original spec. So they are big, heavy and very loud!! The one we have got is only a couple of months old and she has been named Emily! We have hired her for 6 weeks for a little over 100 quid and the plan is basically to drive down and around the south west coast of India. The bike has got some big paniers on the sides so we can just about fit all of our luggage onto it. We will be leaving just after christmas!
Just around the headland from the main beach where we are staying, there are a few beautiful little beaches. They are quite a walk though, which is why the beaches are so quiet. We have been here for 3 weeks so we thought it was about bloody time we went. After about 20 mins of trekking in the boiling hot sun, we came across this couple sat in the shade, we got chatting to
them and found out the the guy was from Nottingham which was really funny because hes sounded like he was from Israel, but apparently he has been travelling for so long that hes lost his accent and english grammer! Anyway, this guy has been writing a book about a global revolution and hes is giving them away for free as he needs to get his message out there. To cut a long story short we left this guy and his girlfriend and headed to the beach but they caught us up around lunch time and said they have walked all this way and have no money could we possibly buy them lunch. I dont mind buying someone lunch but there was a slight feeling of being conned into this situation and there was definately something fishy about this guy. We got the book a couple of days later.
Back to the beach, after the long walk it was so worth it! It was basically empty with only one little shack selling food, with palm trees lining the beach! As soon as we got there we just dived straight into the sea to cool off. After leaving the Nottingham/Israel guy we
met a group of 4 people from Manchester. We got talking and had lunch with them also. 2 of them have been coming to india for about 15 years so they know all the good, less known bits round here. They told us about a beach called paradise beach about 20km north of here. Its quite a challenge to get there but they knew the way. We arranged that if they could hire some bikes for the next day we would all drive up there together. That evening we all met up for a meal on the beach but sadly they couldnt hire any so Lissy and I ended up going on our own. After our meal we went to a little shack that had a reggae night on the beach which was wicked! Its so nice to hear some music other than fucking house or goan trance!
So nursing a little bit of a hangover, we set off for paradise beach! It was quite a mission getting there. We had to get a little ferry over a river. It wasnt that busy and then suddenly a whole school of children came around the corner and piled on, then it
was heaving! Every single one of them staring at us, pointing and laughing. When we got to the other side of the river we asked a local man in a cafe the way to paradise beach, he started waving a gestures around then we thought it best if he could draw us a little map. Finally after about an hours drive and a few wrong turns we realised the map was useless! Eventually we got there. Paradise beach is well named! It is beautiful and completly empty, bar a few fishing boats. We could see for about 3 miles each way down the beach and could only see about 2 other people! Again the beach was beautiful white sand, blue sea and backed off with huge green palm trees. Sadly we could only stay for about 3 hours as we didnt want to miss the last ferry back across the river. Luckily this time it wasnt full of staring school children!
