Turtle Statue
Turtles = longevity and they are everywhere. We're somewhere between the museum and the pagoda Besides the Warriors I knew very little about the ancient capital of Xi'an. It was all I wanted to see there really. However Zoey and I did take off in search of a museum and came up with something more interesting.
I'll never know whether the museum was worthwhile visiting. We got there at about 11.20 in the morning and were faced with a long queue. We went to join it but we found that they only gave out 5000 (free) tickets a day. To anyone else travelling there, I would say you need to get up at the crack of down 8 o'clock and clamber on the rather crowded public transport bus no. 30. We weren't too disappointed when we realised the Wild Panda Pagoda was just down the road. It was pretty spectacular to look at. However we didn't go inside, taking more pleasure in the gardens that surrounded them. They were filled with random pieces of art and quiet corners.
We kept seeing a sign pointing to the Opera Theme Park and found it on our way back. It didn't have the meaning we put to theme park. There wasn't any rides, but it was certainly
Fun in the Park
Gotta love random art work -themed- on the Opera. There were fantastic statues depicting various scenes. I should add the signs describing them caused giggles like 'The romance in the cupboard' and others for their amusing literal English translation.
